Terrain: The desert planet of Arkis is hot, even for a Saurian world. It is located in a volatile part of the galaxy, frequently visited by Void storms. An especially powerful storm formed around the Arkis system several hundred years ago, blocking all communication and travel there, only recently evaporating. During this time the people Arkis had to grow hard or die, no longer able to depend on trade ships for water. This led to their culture changing vastly, centering around honor and water. Various septs formed, each centered around the planet’s largest bodies of water. With their recent reconnection with the Saurian Empire most of these septs have ceased fighting each other and rejoined the larger government, though some still hold animosity in their hearts. Much of the buildings constructed on Arkis are oddly primitive due to Arkesian (Ar-k-ee-gee-in) technology backsliding during their seclusion from the outside galaxy. Most construction favors tents or otherwise buildings with large awnings to shield from the scorching sun. Many times, these cities are built around a lake or river to act as a wall to protect the precious water from those that would take it by force.
Culture: Arkesian culture centers around honor and has reverted to a feudal society over the years. While feuding septs often skirmish over water and the like, they still hold to their honor system very closely, with such rules as never killing someone who is unarmed, never killing a child, never attacking in the night, and many more most would consider quite odd. If a warrior breaks his honor, he will do penance until it is met. He almost always volunteers himself for this but if he does not, he will be shunned and exiled by his own sept. Enemy septs are not the only danger on Arkis however. Great beasts roam the planet’s surface, resembling dragons and known only has Arkesian terrors. The people of Arkis hunt these for sport as they destroy and settlement they come upon, thus slaying one brings much honor.
Military: Due to the planets time spent without technology, Arkesian warriors use sword and firearm almost equally. Killing an enemy with a blade brings much more honor than shooting him from afar, at least in their eyes. Due to this tendency towards melee combat they wear layers of metal bars bolted together with straps. Many of these warriors also have a sort of banner strapped to their backs displaying their sept. The fight fiercely loyal for the Saurian Empire, for in their eyes the owe much honor to them after their rescue and the water they brought the planet upon its return. The Arkesian warriors also possess some of the best bike cavalry in the Saurian Empire, due to the Tem’dorag sept taking a particular interest in the bikes. It is thought that this sept’s hold used to be a factory for such machines, leading to a steady supply during the planets unforeseen exile. Arkesian soldiers are ideal for extended campaigns in hot grueling environments, but also battles that require close guerilla warfare, their tendencies to prefer melee making them ideal for either role. Occasionally they will also use the rare captured Arkesian terror in battle, tearing through enemy ranks with bullets bouncing harmlessly off their thick scales.
