Terrain: Dhorn is a dwarf planet used by the Saurian Empire as a prison world. Its gravity is twice that of earths, even though it is only about a third of the size, due to it being comprised entirely of various incredibly dense materials (most notably, deposits of Kordoa. Around 60% of the surface is covered in sprawling prison complexes, another 30% in mines manned by the prisoners. Dhorn’s days are only 18 hours and all work is done in the 9 hours before sunrise, where the burning sun will scorch any biological thing in the open to ash. This is why it was chosen as a prison world as it makes escapes nearly impossible.
Culture: Many maximum threat prisoners are sent to Dhorn due to its unescapable reputation. Prisoners work off their sentences over years, always returning before the scorching day to their windowless cells. Being windowless is a necessity as even reflective coatings will be pierced by the intense light of the star. As any terraforming attempts are burning away when dawn arrives, all prisoners work in environmentally sealed domes at night that during the day suck the oxygen into tanks underground where it can’t be incinerated. With especially heinous criminals, executions are often carried out by simply restraining the criminal to an execution pillar and left there all day. Workers come at night to collect the restraints. No other cleanup is needed.
Military: Every prison complex on the planet has a garrison of proportioned size, enough to quell any riots that should occur. Sometimes when a sure victory in a war is not assured and troop numbers begin to wane, penal battalions may be recruited from Dhorn, weather they are voluntary or not depends on how desperate the need for troops. Prisoners that do serve will earn time of their sentence. When these penal battalions do go into battle, they are issued surplus weapons and equipment of the bare minimum, along with a collar that broadcasts the prisoner’s vitals and has the secondary purpose of executing the wearer should they decide to attempt an escape.
