Gothavir (G-oth-uh-veer)
Basic Information
Anatomy
These massive blind beasts reside in the black sands and wastelands of Tarvigrad, their preferred hunting method being to bury everything but their mouthes below the ground and wait for an unfortunate victim to stumble into one of their protruding feelers, awakening them from their catatonic stasis-like state in an instant. Their tentacle type appendages spring up from the ground and entangle the victim and pull it into the beast’s hungry maw to be consumed and dissolved by the strong acids within. In more recent years, with pollution on Tarvigrad increasing evermore, killing off more and more of the local flora and fauna, some Gothavir have been driven mad with hunger despite their ability to go many years without food, causing them to actively search for food instead of lying in wait. This has even resulted in attacks on cities in several instances, causing some of the population to live in fear of attack.
Genetics and Reproduction
Interestingly, these creatures mate for life, staying close to their mate after reproduction often for the span of their entire lives. It has even been noted that one of the beasts dying will send the other into a blind rampage, indicating some level of emotion. Reproduction is accomplished by the female planting a single egg deep into the ground beneath her where it will slowly grow over several years before emerging. Gothavir pairs will usually have multiple children in their lifespans.
Dietary Needs and Habits
These beasts will consume almost any living thing that wanders into their waiting mouths.
