Tellmari (Tell-marr-ee)
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tellmari are pale amphibious creatures with soft skin and large, dark eyes. Their large jaws are lined with many razor sharp teeth angled slightly towards the back of their mouths to aid in gripping prey and shredding the meat they consume as food. Eye sockets surround their dark, sunken eyes and no nose can be spotted on their faces. Instead, they breath through gills located in either side of their chest which are capable of processing both water and oxygen. Their forearms as well as calf regions are wider and flatter than most bipeds, allowing for water to be used more efficiently to propel the Tellmari through it when partially or fully submersed. Interestingly, their skin is surprisingly sensitive and they can only survive in fresh water environments.
Genetics and Reproduction
Tellmari give birth to swarms of tadpole-like young which eventually grow into the full grown beings they are designed to.
Ecology and Habitats
Tellmari thrive in fresh water environments, such as that of their unique homeworld of Tellmar which has almost exclusively fresh water on its surface. Interestingly, salt water is extremely harmful to Tellmari breathing organs and will additionally physically burn their skin if exposed too long. This means that unfortunatley, Tellmari must wear environmentally sealed suits on even Atalanti worlds.
Dietary Needs and Habits
As carnivores, Tellmari eat meat exclusively and their sharp teeth reflect this fact. Plants or other such foods would be difficult for a Tellmari to consume, and in addition the Tellmari digestive system would not process much nutrients from them either. Unlike some other races, Tellmari only usually hunt and eat animals, as they are civilized enough not to consume other sentient beings.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
As Tellmari can withstand large amounts of pressure and thus often venture to some of the further depths of various bodies of water, their large eyes have evolved to be able to perceive the faintest amount of light. This allows the Tellmari to see near the bottom of the ocean as if it were a well moonlit night. While Tellmari can perceive vibrations quite well through their sensitive skin as well as a bony organ on the back of heir head which they use for hearing, they do not have any organs capable of smell, though some would liken the ability of their gills to taste certain particles in water to scent perception.
