The Conflict
Prelude
In th months leading up to Kharns rebellion, the empire had been at peace for nearly 4 years and with the extinction of the Kadar, the Walren had no divine enemy anymore. The Walren populace began to become unhappy with the governments Religious and military inaction and riots weren't uncommon on most worlds. The final chapter in the prelude to war began with Kharns Battlefleet: Crusader being sent to investigate a lone Gaia vessle in the middle of deep space. When they arrived they attempted to contact the ship but to no avail. Kharn then border a shuttle and landed alone inside the Gaia ship. It is not known what he discovered or was told within years belly of that ship but when he returned to the False Hope he seemed quite different. He was darker, more quiet, more thoughtful. finally, more than five days after the incident, Kharn declared his fleet to no longer be under the Eternal Walren Empire and called on all other walren to see the corruption within the Neoite government. Billions Rallied to his banner and the Empire was thrown into bloody civil war.
Kharns forces at first were mostly Naval and Marine assets, while Neo held most of the Army. Loyalist planets quickly began pushing out more ships and Traitor worlds began mass recruitment and conscription of ground forces. Kharn set up his Capitol on his home planet of Nyx and doing so captured the largest fleet yard in the galaxy which housed a large sum of warships and supplies. throughout the war The levels of troops and ships evened out but by the mid war both sides had taken extremely high losses among men and ships and were finding it hard to find civilian sailors in any port of the empire. galactic commerce was taking a huge beating and continued to until the end of the war. by the time the war had ended most ship crews were a walren minority and even then most ships were under crewed. most of the ground forces were reduced to hodgepodge heaps of Disorganized conscripts.
There were many battlefields during the Civil war. thousands of worlds were fought over and countless naval engagements were fought. many worlds like Nyx, Cyrus, Walrenor, Syra, and Tangatua were blasted almost beyond recognition or repair. indeed even today many debris fields from Fleet actions and tank graveyards can still be seen.
Conditions for troops on the ground were usually quite awful as Walren doctrine relied heavily on trench and Siege warfare. most of the land fighting was done in brutal, Attritional trench warfare that lasted for nearly the entire war. mud, blood, trenches and death for the entire war. for naval crews it was nearly equal in hardship, most crews were at space most of the time and barely saw port. food and ammunition was short quite quickly aswell as replacements.
The war started rather quickly with a lot of smaller scale battles as planets worked out their alignment and many of the first large battles were Fleet actions. however soon most planets had some fighting on the surface and many of these battles quickly decended into trench warfare. massive fleets smashed into eachother on a regular basis and the number of ships deteriorated quickly as both sides killed eachother by the billions each week. soon most Fleet actions were small scale, usually no more than a few thousand ships on either side. soon the land war reached stalemate and it was starting to look bad for both sides. but then the Cosmic War broke out of both sides joined the struggle and were promptly funded and given aid by their allies. and the Civil war continued as the bloodiest war in history raged on. finally with the end of the Cosmic war came Kharns death and the end of the Civil war. the Empire was Re-unified under Neo and rebuilding began.
Near destruction of the Walren race and empire.
The war stayed in the minds of all who witnessed it and fought in it on both sides. to this day tension still exists between former Kharnite and Imperial worlds and peoples.
Historical Significance
Many new technologies were discovered and used during the war. additionally the end of the war brought total reorganization of the imperial military.
