Averdign

Welcome to the magical world of my creation, where you can play a variety of different magical races and classes that will become the basis for your great adventure. Your adventure will take place in the magical world of Averdign, which has a rich history and lots of mysteries for you to uncover. Lying on the material plane, the world of Averdign is a world filled with magick. Averdign is a medium-sized planet orbiting a medium-sized blue star. As such, while small, the star brings forth a tremendous amount of light and heat to the denizens of Averdign. Orbiting the planet are Averdign’s two moons, Sin, the large and silver one, and Avren, the smaller reddish one. Much like Earth, Averdign experiences different seasons throughout the year; however, the intense magnetic field created by the star Uta causes changes in the length of the seasons. While the planet's fall and spring seasons are mostly unaffected, the summer and winter seasons differ significantly for different parts of the world. Those living in the North experience long summers and short winters, while those in the South experience long bitter winters and short summers. In addition, Averdign experiences a much shorter year than Earth, being only 256 Earth days long. On Averdign, life developed quite similar to Earth's, with magick having a minimal effect on the evolution of living creatures. The most significant change to the life present on Averdign is that on Averdign, humans actually evolved from the sea. These sea humans, known as Triton, dominated the sea, using their great intellects to create weapons to hunt their prey, and it wasn’t until much later that they began to venture onto the land like many other sea creatures. Eventually, after hundreds of thousands of years, life began to populate the surface that was once far too cold for any creature to inhabit. The Triton who had ventured onto the land evolved to be far more suited to life on land and began to dominate the vast landscapes. In addition, unlike the many other lifeforms, the Triton and the races that evolved from them could wield the raw magick that was present in all things. At first, this ability which stemmed from their powerful wills, could only strengthen their physical abilities. Still, eventually, some of them learned to use their innate magick to enforce their wills upon the world. Those who learned to use their mental power to alter the world around them were known as magi and are the origins of magick in the world of Averdign. Being a Magi was a dangerous profession as the raw magick was like an untamed beast ready to tear through any who wished to control it. As such, the first magi learned to channel the raw magick through magical items of their design that contained the will necessary to form the raw magick creating the desired effect. The advancements of the great magi, as they improved their techniques in creating magical technology, caused human and triton civilizations to advance by leaps and bounds. This era of magical innovation was known as the Arcane Erudition and gave birth to some of the greatest magi of the ages. However, this era was eventually put to an end when the Great Nexus Event happened, which destroyed many of the great magical hubs of Averdign. The cause of the Great Nexus Event is unknown, but many believe that the vast amount of magical energy stored in these great cities acted as a magnet pulling in the magicks of the worlds beyond the material plane. With most of the magi dead from the initial explosion of magical energy, the people of Averdign had little to defend themselves against the otherworldly invaders that passed through the nexuses. The surviving magi and warriors of Averdign managed to hold on for a hundred years before finally reaching an agreement with the intelligent races of the other realms. As such, in order to maintain peace, the world was divided, with each realm taking a section of the world under its domain. A millennium had passed since the great Nexus Event, and the once sour humans and triton people had long since mingled with the many otherworldly races, spreading their influence far across the world of Averdign. While the divide between the races had begun to fade, it was still far from disappearing. The four continents of Averdign were still separated by the different races and people that resided there. The Northwestern continent of Faedrun, home to the many Fey races of the Feywild, and the Southwestern continent of Ny’la, home to the Fell races of the Shadowfell, were far too secluded from the other continents limiting their interaction with the other races. However, the Western continents of Adria and Talen, separated by only a small body of water, significantly influenced each other. The Northern continent of Talen was home to a mixture of human and beastmen races that consisted of many different tribes that formed an allied nation. And to the South is the continent of Adria, home to humans and other similar races that have formed separate independent nations. The nations of Adria have a delicate balance of power between them, which is maintained chiefly due to the great mountains dividing them. At the center of Adria is the Th Hadrian Empire, which was formed by the archmage Hadrian Marveil after the Great Nexus Event. To the East is the nation of the free peoples of Doland which lacks any formal government and is maintained by local leadership. The nation of Doland is home to dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and orcs, who hold a semi-peaceful relationship with each other. And to the West is the smallest nation of Xalen, ruled by a council of powerful adventurers and various advisers. The continent of Faedrun, home of the fey races, is ruled by the noble high elves whose less chaotic nature made them the best rulers of the other, much more wild races of the Feywild. The high elves ruled with a council of elders, which consisted of the oldest and wisest members of the elven race. The continent of Ny’la is a realm of darkness and death. The fell energy of the Shadowfell has seeped into the land, making it uninhabitable to most creatures. The inhabitants of Ny’la are at constant war with each other, always struggling for power. Many powerful undead creature rule with absolute sovereignty over their lands. In addition to the many nations of the land, Averdign has people who live in the sea and in the sky. The sky peoples of the Heliandir live in the floating islands above the Talen continent that circle around the vortex created by the elemental plane of air. The Skylands of Heliandir are home to the Ashari people, who protect each of the portals to the elemental planes. The Ashari people are a conglomerate of races who practice the elemental magicks; many great sorcerers and druids come from the Ashari people. Within the ring of fire of the Achlian Sea is the underwater nation of Solia, which is home to the surviving triton and other sea folks. Little is known about the inner workings of the Solian government, but some say a great sea god rules it.
