Damyalahar

The word Damyalahar comes from the traditional khaderian Dam, meaning "universal" (rough equivalent to the latin pan), and Ilahar meaning "counselor, supervisor. It is said to come from a phrase roughly translating to "the one who watches over all the people".
The Damyalahar is the head of the High Khaderian council (Makhi Nasala), which doubles as a centralized government. In the past, the Nasala held more political power than even the mightiest khaderian kings. However, after centuries of recurring civil unrest, as well as the immesurably extensive territory of Khadero has turned the modern Damayalahars into little more than puppets for bigger players in khaderian politics.
The current Damyalahar, Rayin Kharshabi, has taken strides into reshaping the Nasala, not to its former glory, but instead as a protector of the people. Kharshabi hails from the Noyakh plains, where she was raised alongside its current ruler. Thanks to the relations formed during those yearsr, this Damyalahar has informal alliances with many a kingdoms, especially in the central region. The rumor surrounding said associations, along with a negligence of the spiritual duties that come with her position, Kharshabi is regarded by the general public with weariness. (It must be noted that an intervention of hers in Gheris prevented the execution of those considered heretics in the territory has earned her both the respect of the gherian populace and the scorn of its nobility.)
A significant historical role that the Ilahars fill is religious. Whereas the Hathebas are considered priests "of the present" and the Yekhiths (elders) are the keepers of the past, the Damyalahar is widely considered a prophet. They'll have visions and dreams that herald possible (and sometimes unaviodable) futures, which the Yekhiths help interpret and the Hathebas try to either prevent or redirect in the worst cases.
In summary, a good Damyalahar has the ability to guide the khaderians to a better tomorrow via both visions and conflict mediation. It remains to be seen wether Rayin Kharshabi will be able to pick up the mantle.
