Azurewing

Summary

Prince Rajhad, the 2nd prince of Dijargia found life in the palace to be boring. He was sick of maintaining etiquette and political grace, wanting the life of excitement and adventure that he'd heard the people gossip about in taverns. Running away from the palace made his way to Monthelo, a large trading city in Karneharte where he managed to get caught up in an unscrupulous gang of sky pirates.   Joining them, he spent his adolescent years in the skies as part of the Eye of the Sea which gained great notoriety during this time. With each successful mission, the name Azurewing spread across the Arkhe Sea. Though he stole from many merchants and took travelers as hostages for ransom, he never once claimed a life.   One day, as he was drinking by the riverside in Carpthe, his eyes fell upon a pretty maiden and it was love at first sight. He asked her father for her hand in marriage. Upon being denied the first time he proclaimed that he would give all he had earned as a pirate as dowry. Upon being refused the second time he promised that he would renounce his time as a pirate and never return to that lifestyle. Alas, her father once again declined for he was a scoundrel and criminal with no background. Though some of his mates tried to persuade him to take her by force, he would not do so, wanting both her body and heart.   Rajhad left that day but he had not given up. He returned to his duties as the 2nd prince and regained his position using the knowledge and information he had gained as a pirate traveling the Arkhe Sea to aid his country. Eventually, he returned to Carpthe but he did not reveal himself. Acting as a normal man he lived there for a few months, gradually building up a relationship with the maiden. Once again he asked for her hand and once again he was declined, but upon showing proof of his nobility the father hesitated. Wanting his daughter’s happiness he asked her opinion on the matter and having fallen in love with the prince during those months he spent in Carpthe she happily agreed. The prince settled down with his new wife, and the legendary name Azurewing has since vanished from the pirate world.

Historical Basis

Many have connected Prince Rajhad to infamous pirate Azurewing due to the coincidental timing of their appearance and disappearance in worldly gossip. During the time that Prince Rajhad vanished from the palace, a search warrant placed to find him, Azurewing started making his name as a pirate. And when rumors of Azurewing circulated about him falling in love and giving up his life of piracy, the wedding of Prince Rajhad to a young noblewoman in Carpthe came out of nowhere.
