Annual Baker's Festival of Isychia
That o-so-glorious aroma! This festival is surely one of the greatest achievements of post-collapse civilization!
Overview
Every year, the peoples of the Isychia Valley congregate in the Reborn City of Haven for The Annual Baker's Festival. Every street features a vendor of one kind or another who is selling and/or giving away baked goods. There are competitions too, the most prominent of which is the Bread Tournament. That single tournament is rapidly becoming known in all corners of the Quassus Continent. The festival lasts for most of the week, and usually occurs in the second week of the month of Festum- a time when a great many celebrations occur in Awldor. The peoples of the Isychia Valley waste no time in celebrating the entire time. While the event historically has centered in Haven, other towns and villages in the valley also take part in the festivities. For at least a week, the entire valley is a lively place to be amid the colorful landscape of the valley's long autumn season. The festival was established in order to celebrate the closing of the harvest season. This event took on another meaning as it was around this time that the Reborn City of Haven had "finished" its recovery in 1185AGC after being destroyed by a rare and sudden Magic Storm in 1180AGC. Since then, the festival has taken on an element of looking forward to more prosperous days in the wake of an unforeseen tragedy. It's all a bit much if you ask me, but don't let me stop you if you want to try everything.
Kinds of Foods
This festival is said to feature the greatest variety of baked goods anywhere on the continent. From brioche to key lime pie, one can find almost any kind of food in this festival. This is made possible in part by visiting merchants many of whom have come to understand the profit making potential of an event such as this. As such, many merchants across the continent plan to bring ingredients and baked items to the festival when the time arrives to do so.Bread Tournament
Arguably the star attraction of the whole festival. This is where one can find the absolute best bakers of the valley as well as outside it. The notoriety of the this tournament has reached to such unusual heights that a baker as far away as the Republic of Sedá has entered it. This tournament is so competitive that experienced bakers will go out of their way to procure rare recipes in order to make their creations all the more exotic for the judges. While many entrants attempt the exotic approach it is usually the classics that win the tournament overall.Pie Tournament
Another favorite of the festival, the pie competition pits the valley's best pie makers in a battle of skill. Like the Bread Tournament, the pie makers entering this competition are serious about their craft. They often pay top coin for recipes from far and away in order to impress the largely hermit-like peoples of the valley.Economic Impact
It perhaps goes without saying that an event like the Annual Baker's Festival and its growing popularity is attracting many economic opportunities to the valley- particularly for the city of Haven. The increasing numbers of new merchants visiting the festival has allowed the city more opportunities to establish trade connections. In a sense, this festival is rapidly becoming a key economic driver for the city and maybe the entire valley. This phenomena has not gone unnoticed by the valley's neighboring regions.
