Overview

An ancient artifact called the Energija Sphere that was recently uncovered in the The Tilava Vault. While the vault was designed to hold seeds a few other kinds of artifacts were discovered in the rubble. One of these is particularly baffling. Discovered in an adjacent room is a sphere made of a metal that is mithral but not pure mithral. It is somewhat heavier and exhibits some interesting properties. These properties have led many to believe it is an magical energy source. What it was used for and how to utilize it today are topics of some debate.
The sphere is currently being studied in a Lunarian laboratory.

Property 1

The sphere generates heat. Every metal which is worked today is cold to the touch. Not so the mithral of this artifact. It is warm to the touch. It is believed that this is evidence that the sphere emits some level of resting energy. This energy having been confirmed to be magical in nature.

Property 2

When in a darkened room, the Energija Sphere emits a faint purple glow. This is another indication that the sphere may be exhibiting some kind of energy, though exactly what has yet to be determined. This lack of understanding hinders attempts to capture this energy for present day uses. Considering that mithral is known to provide protection against physical and magical attacks, generating its own magic is highly unusual. Some powerful spell must have been utilized to give this sphere its current characteristics.

Property 3

Those who have touched the Energija Sphere have always succumbed to sickness, most having died from it. The time between contact with the ancient artifact and symptoms varies with the individual. First symptoms include nausia, vomiting, and blurred vision. The final round of symptoms before death is too gruesome to account for here. The few survivors were saved through powerful magical means, but have to live with complications for the rest of their life.
Therefore, physical contact with the sphere is prohibited. It is also recommended that one keep a safe distance away from the artifact just to be safe. The need for these safety measures has complicated efforts to examine the sphere, but this is an acceptable alternative to losing more researchers and scholars.

Broken Spheres

Recoveries were made of other sphere's of similar make from other ruins, but these were fragmented. Some never having all their pieces found.
The Energija Sphere is unique in that it is the only sphere that has survived the The Great Collapse intact.
