Gateways to other Realms
Bridges to boundless possibilities.
We must go beyond our own realm if we truly wish to understand the very nature of The Great Collapse. - Archivist Nemo
Overview
They say there are gateways that can bring one across time and space to another world. Most believe that such gates are located at the magnetic poles of Awldor. Others contend that there is no permanent location for these types of gateways and that one must be highly knowledgeable in several arts, most prominently magic, in order to not only locate but to use such portals. Many have set out to find such phenomena, but most of returned empty handed, or never at all having perished in their endeavors. Some remain missing, fueling suppositions that these gateways do exist. The Ancients may have made use of such gateways during their reign before The Great Collapse, but this is only conjecture. Post collapse, there have been many claims and stories concerning adventurers finding these gateways and using them traveling to other worlds. None of these stories have yet to be confirmed.Appearance
As no hard evidence has been as yet recovered concerning this phenomena, the appearance of these gateways remains a mystery. There are scholars who believe they simply appear as magic portals. Others believe that the gateways require a structure, an arch for instance, in order to sustain the magic that fuels them. Still others believe that they take on a more extraordinary form, specifically that they manifest within certain natural phenomena. Common proposals for phenomena where such portals could be found include typhoons, Magic Storms, whirlpools, and tornadoes.Involvement in the Great Collapse and Recovery
Some stories say that Awldor's current recovery did not happen by the native hands of this world, but that visitors from another world had arrived and helped to set things right. Other stories say that the collapse was caused by visitors from another world. Still another combines the two conjectures into a grand story of visitors who arrived to create destruction but who later returned to set things right. Since writing was not widely practiced until about 500AGC, there are almost no records of what happened during the Recovery.Note(s) from the Archivists:
Was this what Archivist Nemo wanted to discover when he disappeared? - Archivist Enna Yes, and we still do not know what has become of him. - Archivist Taenya Is it possible that he really did find one of these portals? That could explain his sudden disappearance. - Archivist Enna It's possible, but we have yet to exhaust less... dramatic possibilities. I do wish we will discover what has happened to him one day. He was very promising as an Archivist. - Archivist Taenya.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
