Glacialis Continent

A landscape of copius ice, snow, and wind.

In a rare display of unanimity, the captains and crews of all vessels have decided that a week was more than enough time to get to know Glacialis. I'm inclined to agree most of all; I have never detested coldness this much before.
— Captain Amaya Pneuma, of the Marigold Apace
A frozen wasteland that contains many secrets hidden in various crevices, caves, and the underground. No one had successfully ventured to this continent since The Great Collapse until 1158AGC with the arrival of the Pneuma Expedition. Captain Amaya Pneuma, captain of the Marigold Apace, successfully arrived to the shores of the continent after visiting the great deserts of the Deshret Continent to the north. Amaya's first impression was that Glacialis was a land of nothing but ice, snow, and wind. Almost nothing that is. Her logs indicate that her expedition's exploration of the continent was cut unexpectedly short.   Pneuma's expedition discovered a great ruin of the The Ancient Order during their stay, which they attempted to explore. Ancient ruins tend to hold many secrets but also many dangers. The details concerning this ruin are unknown as Amaya's notes on the discovery remains lost to us since they were stolen. Whatever they found, it was left in the frigid wastes and seemed to be a topic none of the surviving expedition members wish to recount.
We thought there was no life in this part of the world. That the frost had snuffed it out utterly. We were wrong. I can hear the howls outside. How cold those howls are. I do not expect to survive the night.
— Excerpt from a recovered diary.
Later expeditions to Glacialis did little to dissuade the notion that the land was covered entirely in ice, and only reinforced the notion that anything of value would be extremely difficult to obtain if it could be found at all. However, these expeditions were able to confirm the existence of native life and that it includes strange, icy monsters and fiends. At least, the remains of an unfortunate expedition here or there and their stained notes indicate as much.   The Archivists Guild made its own landing at Glacialis shortly after the guild's inception in 1267. The expedition took two years and at the cost of Archivist Heian who went missing. Heian's work was instrumental in confirming the existence of Ancient Ruins on Glacialis. That expedition stands as the most recent, at least officially. There have been a total of eight expeditions to Glacialis on record.

Geography

Snow that is several units deep in places, mountains of ice, ice caverns litter the landscape, and snow is almost always falling. The days and nights are strange here. There is perpetual daylight during the southern hemisphere's summer months and always in darkness during the southern winter days.

Fauna & Flora

The variety of flora in this land is unimpressive. Expeditions have discovered at least four kinds of flowers that seem to thrive in the snowy climate, while anything else that can be found are some kinds of mosses and liverworts.   Fauna is also a rarity. There are penguins that live on the outer edges of the continent, some fish also swim near the shores of Glacialis, and of course there are the ice fiends and monsters. One expedition claimed to have encountered an ice golem. Another claims to have spotted some kind of crystal worm. Neither have been confirmed, although due to the largely unknown nature of Glacialis these accounts are included in this article for reference by future explorers.

    Travel Note(s) from the Archivists

That was definitely one of my least favorite expeditions since becoming an Archivist. Rest in peace Heian, where-ever you are. - Archivist Savitri
