Untamed Shores

There are places that even I steer clear of.
— Artur Neha, Traveler

Overview

The northern shores of the Occulus Sea is a stretch of land that remains uncivilized. Dense forests, jagged mountains, and sheer cliffs. The border for this wild area of the world is a long canyon that stretches in a crescent shape from shore to inland and then back again to the shore. It is often used as a natural shield by the The Seven Northern Tribes of Quassus against aggression from the south and east.   There are three distinct shores: Cassé, Crowne, and Hraður. These shores lie just east of the southern mouth of the Northern Occulus Gate on the southeastern most point of the Dammerung continental island.

Absent of Ruins

An interesting aspect of the untamed shores is the lack of Ancient Order ruins. It seems that these lands couldn't be tamed even before the The Great Collapse. Why this was is a matter of debate.

Geography

Maybe some things aren't meant to be tamed, because they're not anyone's to tame.
— Marda Seafoot, Fisherman

Cassé Shore

This shoreline is defined by many jagged rocks and the many colors of its sands. Cassé was an area that was most impacted by The Great Collapse along with the Fractured Coast. What makes this shoreline impassable is that it's many rocks create a steep cliff right up to the water line. Extended for a mile out are shallows with many sharp stones. Sand beaches can be spotted in some places, but these remain difficult to get to.   Cassé is the easternmost shore of the three.

Crowne Shore

It looks like a regular northern beach for all intents and purposes. Sand, pebbles, and rocks of all colors that combine to form an artistic landscape contrasting with the sea. Of course, this visage is often disturbed by the sand monsters. Upon approaching the beach the white sand coalesces into many monstrous forms that attack strangers with extreme prejudice. Therefore, the only way to safely appreciate the landscape of this part of the world is from afar. Some have tried to tame Crowne Shore but have always paid dearly for their efforts.   Crowne is the central shore of the three.

Hraður Shore

The shoreline here is littered with rocks and whirlpools that create a stretch of rapids that prohibits approach from the sea. Not every whirlpool is created equal, some have a deep funnel while others do not. Each whirlpool does not remain in the same place for long and will change over the course of the year. Remaining arcane energy from the collapse partly explain how these rapids and whirlpools remain active year round. It is believed that these phenomena have been getting weaker over the years as the arcane energy is steadily expended. For now, sailors would best avoid approaching the whirlpools.   Hraður is the westernmost shore of the three.

It should be called the untamed lands. The wilds extended well beyond the shoreline.
— Phidi Strideheart, Traveler

Salvaxe Forest

Adjacent to the three shores is a vast taiga forest. The sight of this forest dominates the view from the shoreline. The trees in this forest are dense and tall.   A number of wildlife species, most yet to be seen and recorded, live within this forest. It can be somewhat difficult to identify anything within the forest from a distance as a light mist rests throughout it for most days of the year.

Felsig Canyon

A canyon surrounds The Wild Forest which forms a rocky barrier between the Untamed Shores and the rest of the continent. It is not clear if this canyon existed before the The Great Collapse or not. The majority opinion is that it appeared during the collapse, though many point to the fact that this region was unsettled by the Ancients and that the canyon may have been a reason for that.

Natural Resources

Due to the fact that this part of the world is untamed many suspect there are untouched riches to be found in the dense forests beyond the three shores. From undocumented varieties of trees to untouched metal ores. Even gemstones of various kinds are believed to exist within the Salvaxe Forest. The promise of finding these riches has attracted many adventurers. Most are never seen again after entering the forest, and those who return have yet to produce a vast fortune much less return to the forest for another attempt.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

I got to see these shores with my own eyes once. It was through a telescope on a merchant ship away from the shoreline, but I saw those sand monsters. - Archivist Edward
