The Forsaken Blight

Overview

The Forsaken blight is a magical disease that slowly siphons the victim's magical capabilities. Originating from Deravos after The Folded Court ripped magic from the land. Whilst anyone can become infected with the forsaken blight regardless of race, it is only noticeable by those who utilise magic. Outbreaks are quite rare as journeys into forsaken land are heavily monitored.

Symptoms

In its early stages, the Forsaken blight can be identified by the infected's magic becoming erratic and starting to falter. Progressively from there on the disease continues to siphon the magic until the victim loses all capacity to use it. The Forsaken blight is highly contagious at all stages and is transmissible via physical touch or the transfer of bodily fluids. If someone has more affinity for magic or has effective control over it, the progress of the blight slows down. However, someone who has no affinity or has not learnt magic will carry the disease unknowingly as it has no effect on their life. Essentially becoming a walking carrier of the disease.

Prevention

In most stages of infection, the blight can be prevented by the administration of potent magical salves, or powerful restorative spells. This also restores all previous magical potential. However if it reaches the point where all magical ability has been siphoned the Forsaken blight becomes irreversible, and the infected are forced to live a life with no innate magic. By using the same salves or spells during this time it is possible to remove the disease and stop the person from being a carrier but that is all.

History

When people first travelled back into Deravos after the land became forsaken they were unaware of the blight that greeted them. This lead to the first outbreak of the disease which in a short time had spread internationally. Fortunately, healers were quick to respond and only an estimated 700 people lost all of their magical potentials. Ever since the Forsaken lands have been heavily quarantined and there have only been small outbreaks over the following years. Only an estimated 20 people have lost their magic to the blight since its first outbreak.
