The Scholar’s Tome

Overview

The Scholars Tome is a large leather-bound book that once belonged to the guardian known as The Scholar. The Tome itself possesses all the knowledge of the Scholar. However, the price for such knowledge is incredibly steep.
To use the tome, one need only think of the information they seek and the book will provide information on the chosen subject. However, once the information has been viewed the book determines its value and automatically extracts payment from whoever views its pages.

The Price

The payment can take many forms and is completely relative to the viewer. For some, it takes gold or material possessions. For incredibly valuable information it can take limbs, family members and lives. If someone possesses two or more things of equal value to the information the book will select one at random as payment. If the value of the information can not be matched it forces the user to forget the information and the pages instead tell them to find value and return.

Location

Before the ascension, the tome was always on the Scholars person. It is even speculated that this tome provided mortals with the key to ascension. Those who understand the workings of the book, often ask what the scholar had to give up to free mortals. However, after the ascension, it was passed back into the hands of mortals. No accounts of its location have been recorded since 1256 M.E when it was stolen from the city of Riordel’s vaults.
Numerous adventurers have been sent in pursuit of the artefact but to no success. Though there have been sightings of the tome in possession of a figure shrouded in grey mist.
