Boom Tube

Nothing like Grevlin Doomwrench's Boom Tube had been seen before and nothing has been seen since

The Boom Tube

The Boom Tube was a ranged weapon used by Grevlin Doomwrench, the Mad Gnome. Only one was ever built and it was only ever used by Grevlin himself. It was a long tube that utilised blackpowder to fire a metal ball over long distances, usually causing fatal damage to the individual it was fired at. It is described as looking entirely functional, without embellishment. It was simply a long metallic tube, possibly steel, with a handle and mechanism for firing at one end and a rest for the other hand to provide stability whilst aiming. Whilst descriptions of The Boom Tube are scarce, the damage caused by a projectile fired from the Boom Tube is well recorded. An arrow can provide a killing blow if well aimed at a heart or major organ, The Boom Tube's projectiles required less precision to achieve such a fatal strike. The force of the metal balls on the victim's body caused splintering of bone, which then spread internally causing more damage. Also, it was noted that the Boom Tube's projectiles would on occasion force their way all the way through a body, unlike an arrow which normally would stop as soon as it hit solid bone, for example.

Grevlin Doomwrench

Grevlin Doomwrench was one of the members of the villainous The Council of Nine, the organisation responsible for the Cataclysm War. The Boom Tube was one of Grevlin's many inventions. However, the schematics for The Boom Tube were not found in Grevlin's study within Arkran Cathedral following the The Siege of Arkran when the Council were defeated.

Legacy

Since the end of the Cataclysm War, replicating Grevlin Doomwrench's Boom Tube has been the Gnomish society's ultimate goal. The re-discovery of Blackpowder has given fresh impetus to the would be re-inventors of the world but still in the years since, no one has come close to producing a working prototype capable of reproducing the effects of The Boom Tube.
