Overview
The Ghost Fleet is a notorious and fearsome collection of spectral pirate ships that haunt the waters surrounding the island of Puerzocola, one of the
Isles of Ilhon. These ghostly vessels are led by the infamous Captain Kaven Perala.
Puerzocola
Puerzocola is a rugged island known for its hidden covers, making it a popular location for smugglers, pirates, and adventuruers looking to stash their treasures for a time. However, those that seek to exploit the island's natural features for their hideaways must contend with the risk of facing The Ghost Fleet. For many, the rewards outweigh the risks. A good captain can mitigate their chances by sailing on a clear day, as The Ghost Fleet only apparently appear under the cover of night and/or from the mist and fog that can blanket the area otherwise. Some say that The Ghost Fleet controls the mists themselves, though.
The Fleet
The Ghost Fleet is said to contain up to a dozen spectral ships, manned by cursed pirate crews who once terrorised the seas in life. Now, in death, they are bound to the waters around Puerzocola, condemned to sail for eternity in this restless, cursed state. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, the ships themselves appear in a state between living and not as well, with torn sails and broken decayed hulls that don't seem to hinder their travel at all.
Captain Perala
At the helm of The Ghost Fleet is Captain Kaven Perala, a ruthless pirate from history whose name once struck fear across the seas. Perala's ship, the Iron Mistress, was the pride of his collection. His reputation for cruelty was only matched by that of his greed. In life, he ruled the region with an iron first. He and his crew plundered countless ships, amassing a vast fortune. Perala's dominance was unmatched at the time, and many believed his wealth was hidden in the coves of Puerzocola.
His downfall came through mysterious means, and legends differ as to how he and his crew became cursed. Some say it was a betrayal from within his ranks, others a punishment from an otherworldly force. Regardless, Perala and his fleet were condemned to an eternity as ghosts, along with all the loyal captains that followed him. Perala's obsession with wealth persists in death, plundering the unfortunate vessels that cross the Fleet's path, slaughtering the victims or leaving them to drown. As for Puerzocola, some say he patrols the waters mindlessly guarding his stash, others believe he is searching for a way to break the curse for he is unable to step on dry land and cannot access his wealth.
