The Light Festival

Overview

The Light Festival is the Sacred Day that occurs between the sixth and seventh month of the year. It is the Sacred Day that is primarly focused on celebrating Alios, the god of Light.

Basis of Celebration.

For cultures in the southern hemisphere, The Light Festival falls on the shortest day of the year, and the focus is on how it is the beginning of minutes of light extending on a daily basis again. In the northern hemisphere, it falls on the longest day and as such is a celebration of being the day that enjoys the most light of the year.

Traditions and Events

Almost every town, in almost every culture observes some form of celebration on this day in this manner. Naturally, the larger the settlement, typically the larger the celebration. In particular, Dawnstone and Irallien, the Human and Elven capitals respectively hold massive events across their cities.   Due to the recent re-discovery of Blackpowder, most major events will now incorporate a display of dancing lights, one of the first inventions made from the wondrous material. Marvellous displays will adorn the night sky, dazzling the spectators. Before those, during the day, all manner of fun activities will occur. Mostly fairground games and challenges but there will also usually be some kind of performance celebrating a particular victory of the light triumping over the forces of darkness. Since the end of the The Cataclysm War, this is often Aregos Falstar, who is rumoured to have been blessed by Alios, vanquishing one of the many foes he faced during the war. The usual tale is that of the final battle at Arkran, where Astrona Emberwild and the The Council of Nine were ended once and for all by Aregos and the combined forces of light.
