Zhal'vorth

Overview

Zhal'vorth is a legendary entity revered and feared by the people of Suriima. Described as a towering, shadowy warrior wielding a spectral weapon, Zhal'vorth is said to haunt the depths of the Phantasma Jungle. Stories of Zhal'vorth are woven into the local folklore of Suriima, where they are regarded as a sentry of some kind, protecting something of immense significance deep within the mysterious jungle. Though many believe in the existence of Zhal'vorth, no one truly knows the origins of the entity nor their true purpose.

Appearance

They are a tall humanoid figure, usually depicted as cloaked despite the shadowy form. They appear as a inky silhouette with a liquid fluidity to their movements. In Zhal'vorth's hands is a weapon also made entirely of shadows. This weapon takes many forms in across depictions. Sometimes it is a spear, some times it is a glaive, or a halberd. No matter, it is always a weapon with a long shaft. Perhaps Zhal'vorth has the ability to shift the type of weapon and these aren't inconsitencies amongst tellers of their tale. Those that claim to have met him, though heavily disputed, say Zhal'vorth has two tiny points of light that serve as 'eyes', that struck fear into their hearts.

Origin

As with all myths, Zhal'vorth's origin is heavily debated (as is their existence). Legends say that Zhal'vorth was once a mighty warrior, a revered figure who fought with unmatched skill and ferocity, presumably with one of the weapons they are depicted with before it took a shadow form. Some claim they was a guardian of a powerful relic or secret, while others suggest they were a great general who fell in battle under mysterious circumstances. How Zhal'vorth became shadows is also debated. Some believe they were cursed or corrupted by a powerful force, bound to the jungle. Those that prescribe to the guardian theory suggest they might have willingly sacrificed themselves, turning into this form to continue their duties beyond death.

Abilities

As shadow, Zhal'vorth blends into the darkness of the Phantasma Jungle, and is capable of appearing anywhere, only needing a tiny crack to pass through. It is said they exude an aura of dread, striking fear into those who come too close, a force beyond the mere psychological. They can cloud the mind of their foes, making it difficult for them to focus. As an ancient force, it is said Zhal'vorth knows every inch of the Phantasma Jungle, and if you incur their wrath, there is nowhere you can hide. Fleeing is futilie.
