Kaya Leigh Silverthorn (a.k.a. Kai)

Kaya Leigh Silverthorn is the adopted daughter of Lady Beatrix Silverthorn, current monarch of the Hollow City, Ostylia, and the adopted sister to arcanist and artisan Zephyrus Silverthorn. Independent and fiercely protective of her home and family, Kaya joined the Whaleguard at a young age, mentored by the renowned head of the Ket'ranian branch of the guild, and is currently on track to take his place upon his retirement. She works predominantly with aerwhales, and is one of the leading experts on aetherwhales due to their shared connection with mystical fey magic.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Kaya is fairly short and slim in stature, but has built up her strength throughout her Whaleguard training.

Body Features

As a half-elf, Kaya has pointed ears. Due to her connection to the feywild, Kaya's appearance is altered by fey magic. Antlers similar to a deer's grow atop her head, and each morning small flowers grow in her hair, matching those native to the region and those currently in season. She has found that some of these flowers have had magical properties depending on the area she stayed in.

Facial Features

Kaya has a birthmark in the middle of her face, in the form of small reddish-pink lines that cut across the lower part of the bridge of her nose. She also has freckles covering her face.

Identifying Characteristics

Kaya has dark brown hair that she keeps braided out of her face. She has green eyes, freckles, and a birthmark over her nose. As a half-elf, she has pointed ears, but during her time spent in captivity, a small notch was made into the upper edge of each of her ears, leaving them slightly misshapen. Due to her connection to the fey, she also has antlers the colour of wood, that blossom with flowers.

Physical quirks

Due to her connections to the fey, Kaya has antlers made of wood growing atop her head. These blossom each morning with flowers, the type of flower depending on the flowers native to the area she is in, and the season at the time. She has discovered that magical flowers can grow on her antlers, but only in certain areas. Similar flowers also blossom in her hair each morning.

Apparel & Accessories

Kaya's usual attire is the outfit of a member of the Whaleguard, specifically that of a Whaleranger. This uniform varies depending on the environment she is in at the time. It always includes a long hooded cloak, the colour varying dependent on whether she is in the air or on the ground in the forests on a given day, allowing for camouflage and moving undetected if the need for it arises. She also always wears a single gold earring on her right ear, a square loop that goes over the middle of the edge of her ear. This matches her brother's, and allows them to remain connected no matter how far apart. The earrings are enchanted, similar to a sending stone, and allow them to communicate no matter where they are.

Personal history

Kaya was born in the Ket'ranian Moongrove, a small settlement in the North-West of Ket'rani, south of Kel'darr. At the age of 9, Kaya's parents were murdered, and she was taking into captivity by their assassins, experimented on for her fey magic. Rescued at the age of 14 by Lady Beatrix and the Whaleguard, alongside a 10 year old tiefling boy named Zephyrus, she was taken in as a ward to the royal house of Silverthorn in Ostylia, and later adopted into the family, taking on both the surname, and a hidden name gifted to her by Beatrix in memory of her mother, Queen Annaleigh, the elven queen of Ostylia. Following her release from captivity, Kaya found it hard to readjust to life outside the facility. She suffered severe claustrophobia, issues with control, and both she and Zeph suffered from separation anxiety, a biproduct of having only each other to rely on for the past 4 years. In an attempt to help her open up, Lady Beatrix asked [NAME HERE], who would in the future become head of the Ket'ranian Whaleguard, to give her some lessons in archery and the natural world of Axordia. After just one lesson, Kaya was hooked. She has at last found her calling, what she was meant to do: protect those who could not protect themselves.

Sexuality

Kaya is an asexual aromantic, and is currently in a queerplatonic relationship with fellow Shrike Archer Frey, a male human druid.

Mental Trauma

At the age of 9, Kaya's home in the Ket'ranian Moongrove was attacked, and her parents were killed. The assassins then kidnapped Kaya, and she fell into the hands of a dark organisation for the next 6 years. Experimented on for the fey magic she could wield, a test-gone-wrong ended up in the facility beneath the Duranian Wildlands she was being held in being located by the Whaleguard, who noticed a disturbance in the normal seismic levels of the area.

Motivation

Though a fairly independent person, Kaya is fiercely protective of the people she considers friends and family, and will do anything to protect them. Due to her wood-elf roots, this protectiveness has extended to the natural world, leading her to join the Whaleguard in order to defend the beautiful creatures of Axordia.

Likes

Spending time with Archer (her queerplatonic partner), the rest of the Shrikes, and her family. Archery. Nature.

Vices & Personality flaws

Due to her past trauma of being kidnapped and held in captivity, Kaya despises the feeling of being trapped or events being out of her control. This is why she prefers working alone, or with incredibly trusted friends or allies such as her mentor, her division. Kaya's need to be in control of every situation she finds herself in leads to her speaking or acting abruptly, meaning she often comes off as cold and unwilling to listen to the input of others.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Both due to her status as heir of Ostylia, and future head ranger of the Ket'ranian Whaleguard, Kaya has many contacts across both Ket'rani, and Axordia. Obviously, her strongest relation is that of the city of Ostylia, being her home and her people, the citizens are always happy to lend aid where they can. Despite not having come into contact with them outwith Whaleguard gatherings, Kaya is deeply respected by the Ket'ranian Whaleguard, and upon asking any for assistance she would immediately be helped.

Religious Views

Kaya is a spiritual person, with the deities she follows mostly being Pelor, the Dawnfather and patron god of Ostylia, and Melora, the Wildmother, goddess of nature and the earth itself.

Social Aptitude

Kaya is not hugely social, partially stemming from her childhood trauma and previous struggles to connect with children her age after what she had gone through.

Hobbies & Pets

Kaya's favourite thing to do is to hike out to a spot where no light reaches during the night, and watch the aetherwhales fly in the night sky.

Kaya is the daughter of Lady Beatrix Silverthorn. Adopted after they were rescued from captivity, Kaya grew up in the restored city of Ostylia alongside her brother Zeph.
