The Realm of Dark
A terrible and destructive landscape created below Ayn by the entities for the purpose of helping souls break down into essence. It is rightfully feared as a place of endless suffering and torment, as, although the living has ever seen it, it is often depicted in artistic renditions of hellfire. It is the home for demons and the many infernal clans that have spawned from the infernal creatures.
The purpose of the plane was not simply to store the souls of the damned, but also to break the burden felt which would result in the essence being freed. Originally it was Eos - Goddess of Death who lorded over the area, but Azox was tricked and bound to the upkeep and rulership of the domain..
It was actually attacked by the Yman in an attempt to stop the Immortal War but was thwarted when Azox emerged and exerted his tremendous might in a devastating display.
"As I crossed over the ridge I saw the gates of Azox's domain in its full glory, and for the first time in my life, I trembled. I had lived amongst demons my whole life but I don't think anything could prepare me for what I saw. The massive throngs in an endless sea of horns, spikes, and crooked teeth, all wrapped in a sinister leathery skin interacted with one another with brutish intent. Gajaal will lead us. I trust him. Tomorrow will rise and we will charge with a righteous fury that will shake the very core of existence. I will channel this fear into my blade. Tomorrow I will end this war."
Geography
It is far more varied than what most consider it to be as different souls require different needs of absolution. This means that one section of the realm could be dedicated to whips, branding, mutilation, and other forms of torture meant to break the body, while another could be devoted to spiraling depression and crippling anxiety meant to break the mind. These needs have corresponding environments to fit the motif.
An example would be tight, cramped darkness for the claustrophobic, or millions of vermin and insects for those that fear filth. The demonic clans have carved out their homes in these areas and helped to change the terrain to their twisted desires.
Fauna & Flora
The Realm of Dark was never meant to house flora or fauna. Although animals do not feel guilt and thus do not naturally proceed to the realm, corrupted or aberrant creatures will often funnel themselves down. Their stay is very quick, as they do not require any absolution for the essence to be freed.
