Toxins & Tinctures Apothecary

The burning smell of chemicals and cadavers fill the nostril, explaining why most of the staff wear breathing apparatus over their nose and mouth, either a cloth cover or a full mask and filter. The lights are made dim to avoid distracting from their research, and oft the glow of the green beakers fill the room. The place has, what can best be described as 'organized chaos' to its layouts with research notes scattered and tools spread haphazardly over wooden tabletops.   Toxins & Tinctures, much like the rest of Xulf where it is located, is seedy and sinister in its design attracting less than favorable alchemists. Not one to shy away from live experimentation, or introducing methods most foul, they receive a bevy of feedback, from general disgust to curious fascination.   Most famous for its poisons, of which assassins from all around revere, they are also well known for crafting explosives, corrosives, other cruel concoctions.

Structure

To Join

Applications, while necessary, are generally a formality, as the real test to join is issued out from a chief toxicologist. This test is usually in the form of gathering materials or even dead bodies, and then paying a fee for membership.

Remaining structure

From there the member starts as an apprentice with basic access to flasks.   During their apprenticeship they are expected to follow and take notes from their seniors. They are rarely engaged short of quick worded orders, as they are expected to learn without being exposed to verbal bias. By monitoring and taking notes, it is reasoned they will grow and draw their own conclusions.   After several months have passed they are expected to receive three recommendations from superiors (Although it's not uncommon for these to be forged, or for the members to be bribed). They are then named as toxicologists and allowed access to starting level materials and to more advanced machines. They can also operate on live subjects within the organization.   Upon fulfilling a certain number of orders or being responsible for a few large breakthroughs they are then promoted to senior toxicologist, allowing them to oversee a team. In this position nothing is off limits. They are allowed access to materials, live test subjects of any race available are offered and allowed to be worked on, and no crafting mechanism is forbidden. They are encouraged to shine their brightest and most deadliest.   The next promotion would be a chief toxicologist, and this is usually done after the senior toxicologist and their team is deemed as a cornerstone of the organization.   Owners are assigned on an incredibly rare and exceptional basis.   Special Note: Any members who either were, or are currently, members of The Sacred Flask are not allowed to join Toxins & Tinctures. The Sacred Flask is considered to be an obstacle, and thus an abomination, to the progress of alchemy and science due largely to their regulations imposed to their members. No amount of repentance will allow someone to change their allegiance to either organization.

Public Agenda

Toxins & Tinctures main goal is for scientific development at any means necessary, often times disregarding morality and ethics. No project is off limits such as experimentation on live test subjects, dosing or modifying one's self, or creating concoctions with monstrous effects.

History

Toxins & Tinctures formed in the early days of Xulf, and, much like the city, was quickly prosperous and initially good in intentions. However, as time went on and morality decayed, the citizens revealed a thirst for weaponry and destruction. No longer were hair growth formulas requested, and instead it was just better to poison the handsome man flaunting his long flowing locks in front of those with unfortunate receding hairlines.   The free market spoke, and, coupled with questionable leadership choices, soon their focus shifted less on the betterment of society, and instead to its destruction.
