Bladefist Conflict

A conflict that involved a changing environment. The location of the conflict was Nightbramble Woods in Shotark, on the continent of Cheron, on the world of Ayora. The conflict was between the peaceful elves who lived there and the army of Breonak, the country to the northeast in which part of the Nightbramble sits. The conflict was between the High Champions of Nightbramble and the First Battalion of Breonak.

The Conflict

Prelude

This conflict began when the people of Breonak, who were an advanced civilization, wanted to travel through the Nightbramble in order to reach Doomwater to retrieve their "research material" that had escaped there. The people of the Nightbramble are a proud people who don't view outsiders in a positive light. The first few parties sent out from Breonak disappeared; they were taken hostage by the Nightbramble people. The next parties were sent out with an army escort and the escorts were all killed and the scientists taken. A negotiation team was sent from Breonak and turned away after their requests were heard at the edge of the forest. The leaders of Breonak decided the "research material" was too valuable to just let go, so they gathered the troops and set out to make war on the Nightbramble.

Deployment

The army of Breonak, the First Battalion of which was sent to Nightbramble, was deployed hastily once the decision was made. They were overconfident, so only brought the following weapons: guns, knives, and swords. The army of the Nightbramble had the advantage. They were ready for war long before the First Battalion was deployed. Their fighters were deployed to the edge of the forest and hidden there.

Battlefield

The battlefield was the forest of the Nightbramble. The First Battalion couldn't draw the High Champions out into open battle, so they were forced to enter the forest and engage in a type of battle they weren't prepared for. There were skirmishes amongst the trees and in the treetops, where the High Champions were likely to be waiting to rain down destruction on the First Battalion.

Conditions

The conditions of battle were perfect for the High Champions but rather rough for the First Battalion, who hadn't trained for close combat in the forest with magic users. The Nightbramble is a dangerous forest because it's a shifting forest. You can go in the north side, travel south, and come out on the west side. Or never come out at all, if you don't know the right signs. The forest and its paths constantly change. The people of the Nightbramble have memorized its patterns and learned to traverse it safely. They have also learned which landmarks are permanent.

The Engagement

The First Battalion knew little of magic and the High Champions were skilled magic users, as well as warriors. Still, the war raged on for nearly four years. The First Battalion was skilled in battle and adapted quickly to the forest terrain, learning that their longswords were of little use amongst the thick undergrowth. The High Champions became better at using their magic against metal armor.

Outcome

The conflict was lost for the First Battalion and they went home to lick their wounds.

Aftermath

The scientists of Breonak were never able to recover their "scientific research," which was a hybrid lizard-human creation. He started a haven for other reptilian and amphibian hybrids in Doomwater, eventually calling it Doomwater Kingdom.
