Bonespite Clan

The Bonespite Clan is dedicated to guarding Khom Keizl, also known as "The Fang." They are a group of mercenaries that he hired who have become his brothers in arms. He has come to trust them with his life. They carry out his orders within the city of Ketra and beyond. They are feared for their ferocity and skill.

Composition

Manpower

There are approximately 1,500 men in the Bonespite Clan. This number varies as men come and go but Keizl likes to keep it at approximately 10% of the population of Ketra.

Equipment

The Bonespite Clan relies mainly on the weapons the men have brought with them, which varies from swords to axes to pikes. They do not have any siege equipment. There is a small medical ward, which requires medical equipment and supplies, which the Clan buys from the townspeople at a fraction of what they're worth. They also require food, again from the townspeople at a "discount." They require horses and armor, some of which the men bring with them.

Weaponry

Swords, axes, pikes, and simple clubs. They mainly use clubs in the city, as swords can be difficult to swing in tight quarters. Swords can also kill, where clubs send a message.

Vehicles

The Bonespite Clan relies on horses to move around the city and for raids outside the city.

Structure

Keizl is the commander. He has three lieutenants that he trusts to carry out his orders. He also has a team of 8 military advisors. There are ten squadrons of 150 men, which are usually divided into 10 groups of 15 men to patrol the city and the surrounding area. There are scout units, which report directly to a lieutenant, as well as support staff like cooks, healers, and clerks. There is a dungeon under Keizl's headquarters, so there is prison staff as well.

Tactics

The Bonespite Clan prefers brute force over any other tactic. Their job isn't to protect the city; it's to protect Keizl and his interests. He has no interest in taking over other lands, rather he desires to maintain control over Ketra and make money. So his men enforce taxes and "rents," as well as offer "protection" (i.e. don't attack) to businesses that Keizl sees as profitable.

Training

Keizl personally sees to the training of his men on a regular basis. They train in weapons and hand-to-hand combat five out of seven days. In order to join the Bonespite Clan, a person must best three current members in hand-to-hand combat on the training grounds.

Logistics

Logistical Support

Keizl's headquarters has a blacksmith to see to all the armor repair, horseshoeing, and weaponsmithing needs. There is a medical unit, staffed with two doctors and six nurses. There is a dungeon and eight guards who rotate through.

Recruitment

Able-bodied men and women between the ages of 15 and 55 who are able to prove themselves worthy of joining. They must possess certain qualities, such as ruthlessness and cunning.

History

The Bonespite Clan began in 1851, the year after Khom Keizl arrived in Ketra. He was already the most powerful person in the city by that time, being responsible for driving out the dragon. He decided he needed his own guard and began recruiting mercenaries. Over the years, he began to trust three of them, whom he made his lieutenants. His forces grew as word of his power spread. And, of course, the more men he had, the more power he wielded.

I don't like this Keizl person, but I'm interested in how he came to power. I'm more interested in his ulterior motives, and how the bonespite clan will help him achieve those goals....
