Crimson Grasses
The Crimson Grasses is a rebel group led by the red dragon Agyrrys, The Bold. Their manifesto, Swords and Snakes, is a call to action for the people of Shotark to rise up against the king of Shotark. It cries out against unfair taxation practices and lack of protection from the king's soldiers. It points out the lavish parties held in the capital city while the farmers eke out their living in the country. It calls for a complete removal of the king and his court. It calls for a senate to be put in their place, with representatives from six districts, laid out by Agyrrys in a detailed map. Agyrrys and her cohort wrote the manifesto but have not yet gathered the strength in numbers to put it into effect. Yet, every day, their numbers grow stronger.
Structure
Agyrrys is the leader. She has a six-person council, representative of each of the districts from her map. She also has advisors: a financial advisor, a strategy advisor, and a communications advisor.
Culture
The members of the Crimson Grasses trust each other implicitly and outsiders very little. This is the nature of a rebellion in Shotark. If they were found out, they would be tortured for information and killed. Their belief is that the king and the whole system are corrupt. The king and his court need to be replaced with a senate, representing the people of Shotark from the six districts that Agyrrys mapped out.
Public Agenda
The goal is to overthrow the king and replace him and his court with a senate. The senate will contain representatives from six districts in Shotark, voted on by the people. The Crimson Grasses believe the king and his court and the whole system in general are flawed and evil, doing nothing but preserving the king's wealth and power. Agyrrys promises her followers freedom from tyranny, but only at the expense of hard work and lives lost.
Assets
Agyrrys has amassed a great deal of wealth over her many years and uses it sparingly within the organization. At this point in the life of the organization, they don't have any buildings or equipment. When the movement gains enough strength, she will fund their fight.
History
Agyrrys the Bold founded the Crimson Grasses in 1849, after a failed summit with the king of Shotark. During that meeting, she attempted to convince the king to better the living conditions of his subjects, citing poverty, starvation, war, and plagues. She pointed out the lavish conditions of the palace and the king was offended and sent her away at the point of a spear. Many spears, to be exact. Enraged, she returned to her cave. News of her visit traveled and, before long, brave souls were venturing to see her and beg to join her cause, which she didn't even know she had. She accidentally toasted the first couple of visitors but when the next called to her from a distance with their requests, she granted them an audience. Once she got over the absolute ludicracy of having humans as allies, she and they wrote up their manifesto, Swords and Snakes. The title was a wry pun at humans allying with a dragon. The document was finished in 1850 and, after making a copy, Agyrrys sent it out to be signed by what powerful people she could trust. Unfortunately, Keizl intercepted one of her couriers and came prancing up to her cave with a copy of the document. She dare not eat him because he had a contingency plan in place for the document to be revealed should he not return to Ketra. He threatened to reveal her plot to the king if she didn't stop harassing the city of Ketra and eating its inhabitants and their herds. Reluctantly, caught in his trap, she signed a document promising to leave Ketra alone for as long as Keizl ruled it. She could sense he was a dangerous man to put in power but he left her little choice. The greater good was at stake. She was a powerful dragon but she couldn't change Shotark if the king ordered her executed. Years later, the Crimson Grasses have recovered from the setback. The document was eventually signed, with the signers themselves carrying the document to the next person, rather than relying on couriers. Their numbers are growing and there are Crimson Grasses in all major cities and most minor as well.
