Pinklebotham's Apothecary

Pinklebotham's Apothecary has been in the Pinklebotham family for two generations, but both of those were extremely long generations with late-fathering males. Pinklebotham's is known for having the freshest herbs and if he doesn't have it, he knows where to get it. Pinklebotham's is also known for its fierce protection of customer privacy, no matter the purchase. This comes with a penalty - Estra Pinklebotham is known to give advice when he feels strongly about something.

Purpose / Function

Pinklebotham's is the go-to spot in town for witches to gather. It's a safe haven from the rest of the world, who don't understand witches. Plus it smells delicious - all of those herbs. There are herbs, tinctures, and remedies for a vast array of ailments. There is a counter for serving yourself herbs. There are little tables for drinking tea made from Pinklebotham's special blends. The back of the tea room is also a small bakery, which provides cookies, small cakes, and other treats.

Design

There are two main rooms that are attached by a doorway. One is for herbs, tinctures, and tonics. The shelves are floor to ceiling and there are standing shelves in the middle of the room. The other room is a tea room, with small tables and chairs and a counter. The tea room is cozy, with a fireplace and bookshelves. Pinklebotham's also sells magical texts.

Entries

There are two entries, one into each room. There is a back door out of each "store" that opens into the alley as well. This is because Pinklbotham's used to be two stores that were adjoining.

Sensory & Appearance

See: bottles and jars filled with herbs and tinctures, shelves and flooring made of wood, herbs hanging from the ceiling to dry. Smell: herbs, tea, baked treats. Feel: smooth wood underfoot, dry herbs, cool glass jars, hot teacups. Hear: calm, happy voices; clinking teacups; pages turning; coins jingling.

Denizens

Ezra and Estra Pinklebotham live here, above the store in two separate apartments. There is also a cat named Sugar (because you always have a little in your tea if you pet him) who roams the store and keeps pests under control.

Alterations

Ezra Pinklebotham bought the store next to his just before he transferred ownership to Estra. The two are adjoining, so he opened up the wall into a doorway, doubling his space.

Architecture

Pinklebotham's Apothecary is largely made from wood beams but its foundation is made of the pink stone common to Ketra's architecture. It stands two stories tall, with Ezra living in an apartment over one of the stores and Estra living in the other.

History

Ezra Pinklebotham (1740-1832) commissioned the two-story, building to be built in 1776. He ran the apothecary until his son, Estra (1800- ), took it over in 1827. Estra is now getting ready to hand the reins over to his son, Echra (1855- ).

Tourism

Witches and healers visit the apothecary, as well as others who purchase the special tea blends and tonics Estra and Ezra make.
