Mental characteristics
Personal history
Caolan was raised by Ardan of Ryal, court sorcerer for King Caol, Caolan's father. He was born as the country of Phelin was captured by the army of the Overlord of Berk, and was hidden away in the village of Flaice until he was old enough to lead an army of his own. This he did successfully, becoming the first Grand King of Phelin at twenty years old. Though he was young and gave the country a new ruling structure, he is regarded as having ruled well until his death.
Sexuality
Education
Ardan taught Caolan much in regards to policy, dealing with conflict, and with general skills such as reading, writing, and math. When it came to combat, he learned much from his tutor, a man named Fen. Much of his true education, however, came in the form of experience.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Caolan is remembered for his war to return control of Phelin to the royal family, and to rid it of the control of Berk. He also created the ruling structure that includes a Grand King, Second King, and two Queens.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Once he knew his identity as a prince, Caolan embraced his sense of duty and never turned from it. The choices he made throughout his life reflect his belief that kings must make decisions that do the greatest good for the most people within the country.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Ardan of Ryal was Caolan's father figure as he grew up, as well as his court sorcerer once Caolan was on the throne.
Kian of Craywell, who assisted in commanding Caolan's army, became the first Second King of Phelin when he married Caolan. Prior to this, they were lovers, and Caolan's unwillingness to end their relationship or keep it a secret affair after he married led to his decision to change the ruling structure. This structure still remains, though it is not always as intimately replicated.
Nydia and Dyna were also commanders of Caolan's army. They married him and Kian to become Queens of Phelin. Legend tells that they were also lovers, and were happy that the arrangement allowed them to remain together without issue.
Social Aptitude
One of Caolan's greatest satisfactions was seeing that his open and significant relationship with Kian, and what was at times implied about Dyna and Nydia, allowed for greater acceptance throughout much of Phelin for those who wished to be in same-gender or multi-partner relationships. While it was not universal across all Phelin, by the end of his reign things had improved significantly in the major cities in terms of acceptance, and would continue to improve in the coming years across the entire country.
