Falle'Atahaudinmo

The Beautiful Death

Nur-ymir is the home of a veritable infinite variety of natural creatures. Its robust and ever adaptable ecosystem reminds all Citzens of the love and care of the Devouring Mother, for the Wardens work always to maintain the balance and integrity of Nur-ymir for geneations to come.

Even those animals which appear totally pointless, or seem to exist to merely cause harm or havok, like the Falle'Atahudinmo, are protected and nutured under the careful stewardship of the Wardens.

Falle' do not seem to have any higher or cunning intelligence. As insects go, they are entirely insect like. They swarm together. They breed together. They eat what green leaves the canopy provides, or whatever happens to stumble upon them. And, they are un-nervingly beautiful.

There are no 'roads' in Nur-ymir just safer paths and passages through the forest that the Wardens manage. Falle' are encouraged to avoid these safer paths, but upon occasion swarm near them. The Wardens adjust the path as they can. While such adjustments may cause delays in travel times, they just as often maybe faster. Such is the nature of travel through Nur-ymir.
The Wardens are reluctant to kill swarms of Falle'. But, many Citizens have noted that the Warden's are relucatnt to kill most things in Nur-ymir preferring instead to utilize means less final to reduce risk. The Falle' are not the most dangerous animals in the Forest, so often awareness, patience and a little creativity are all that are required to avoid them.

It is noted by many, that those poor Citizens who survice Falle' attacks are often haunted by their experience. They recall the experience with complicated and mixed emotions. Family members and close friends have noted that surviors of Falle' encounters seem distant and often startle. Many often can not sleep or struggle with emotional expression. It is common for surviors to be 'overly expressive.' Of a more, concerning note a small number have stated that they long to re-experience their encounter with the Falle'. Though few make the attempt.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Adult Falle' butterflies have an average wing span of roughly 20-30cms. The main body averages between 8 and 12 centimeters and have an average weight of 1.2 grams.

Genetics and Reproduction

Falle' have a 5 month reproduction cycle. At 5 months of age Falle' are capable of reproducing. Females lay thousands of eggs in the upper tree canopy and males then fertilize them. Two weeks later Falle' catepillars emerge and begin to consume leaves, and begin being consumed by other creatures.
Falle' are an essential piece to of the Nur-ymir ecology.
After three weeks of eating and building mass, the Falle' catepillars coccon and metamorphize into full Falle' butterflies in a mere four days.

Growth Rate & Stages

Falle' have three stages of life.
Egg, Catepillar and Adult.
Adults live an average of 8-15 months.
Total life span average being - less then 17 months.

Ecology and Habitats

The majority of Falle' can be found in the upper canopy of the trees of Nur-ymir. Upon occation, they will come down into the lower strata of the Green which is were most common Citizens will encounter them.
As such, the Wardens don't consider Falle' much of a threat to those Citizens are smart and follow their directions and advice.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Falle' are herbavores (mostly) and eat the various leaves of the tress of Nur-ymir.
However, given the opportunity for a sudden nutrient rich meal in the form of an animal, they won't pass that by.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Warden's of Nur-ymir spectulate, being informed by years of experience, that the Falle' have very keen eyesight, and have the capacity sense vibrations in the air around them.

I tell you. Clear as day, I know what I saw and I know what I 'member. And... I'm dam'd if I know what I don't!
Them Fella-flies are so beautiful. When I seen them, it was as if I couldn't breath. An the light, they just danced in it, an I swear...
Even when they were eating my Bel and Yannis, so beautiful. I know i should feel sad an' mad. Get all angry, but ... it was just... so.
Now... bring me that beer you promised, I'm gonna kill the beauty with it, and feel a propper sad."
