Bioluminescent Bacteria.
This ancient technology has been lost to the Realm. It is a simple bacteria that has been genetically altered by the Ancients to emit light in total darkness.
The light is full spectrum.
When any other light source is in the area providing light, the bacteria does not emit its own light. The Ancients typically would load ampules of fluid wth the Bactria and use it to light rooms deep underground. So, if adventures should happen to adventure deep into the darkness of the Realm, it would be possible to still find some examples of these ampules or larger vases containing this technology.
If these bacteria come into contact with a living creature, they quickly invade the creature and begin to enjoy a very robust environment. Eventually, the creature will also bioilumence as well but of course only in total darkness. Eventually, the bacteria will seep from the pores of the creatures flesh and mark everything that they touch. This of course can be very interesting in total darkness as well. The bacteria can be washed off, and very hot temperatures will kill it if it is exposed on a surface.
There are no records or understanding of what would happen should a creature be infected with the bacteria in the long term. However, the one instance that is only known to a Dwarven family did end in strangeness.

Utility
Used as a self-renewable light source.
Manufacturing
The process of manufacturing is lost, but once the bacteria is introduced into a living host, it will quickly self replicate and live within the host indefinitely.
Access & Availability
This technology is lost to the Realm. There is only one instance of it being used by Citizens of the Realm. The Archo use a mutation of this technology to create their living manuscripts.
Complexity
Genetically altered bacteria.
Discovery
Around the delivery of the Third Statues a curious Dwarf leading a party of explores dared go deeper in the roots of the Fallen Mountains and discovered a place full of Ancient Wisdoms. They of course directly informed the Paragons and were awarded for their wisdom with wealth and assistance which allowed the family to become pre-eminent for many centuries.
And, it just so happened that one Dwarf of little note, accidentally split this Ancient Wisdom upon themselves ... and was thus contaminated. This of course was not discovered until some time later. A heated family discussion decided that they would not tell the Paragons which sealed the poor Dwarf’s fate. Eventually, the dwarf died several years later having succumbed to a brain illness which disrupted normalcy so much they became a threat to those they loved. Or, so the story is told.

Bacteria are amazingly useful. Very lovely article.
Necromancy is a Wholesome Science.
Thank you. I agree. I am also embarrassed that my editing skills only work a few days after someone else had read my work. I’m hoping to create more useful biotech for the realm.
That's going to be a lot of fun to play with! Best of luck!
