Quabar’s Standardized Categories
The Jade List
It has been the task of many Brothers to observe the natural world and keep careful notes as to the behaviours, ecological importance, and numbers of the natural flora and fauna of the realm. Part of this endeavor was the development of the Jade List, Quabar Standardize Categories. For thousands of years this method of categorizing has been used and is commonly known by any who are students of the natural biological sciences, or whose livelihood depends on working closely or within the Wild.
Jade List has seven categories of conservation: least concern, near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, extinct in the wild, and extinct. Each category represents a different threat level.
Least Concern Least concern is the lowest level of conservation. A species of least concern is one that has a widespread and abundant population. All the uplifted are species of least concern, along with most domestic animals. Many wild animals, such as pigeons and rabbits, are also classified as least concern.
Near Threatened A near threatened species is one that is likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future. These species are flagged due to rarity of sightings in their native ecology, potential or current expansion of civilization, or predation from an incisive none native species.
Vulnerable Species A species is classified as vulnerable when its population has demonstrated a decrease of over 70 percent over 10 years or three generations of the species, whichever is longer.
Endangered Species A species is classified as endangered when its population has declined between 50 and 70 percent. This decline is measured over 10 years or three generations of the species, whichever is longer.
Critically Endangered Species A critically endangered species’ population has declined between 80 and 90 percent. This decline is measured over 10 years or three generations of the species, whichever is longer.
Extinct In The Wild A species is extinct in the wild when it only survives in cultivation (plants), in captivity (animals).
Extinct A species is extinct when there is no reasonable doubt that the last remaining individual of that species has died.
I have found the Jade list to be both informative and helpful. However there has been the occasion when in the wild that the information provided in the list has been incorrect. Certainly, it is a fine thing to know how rare an animal is when you’re planning a long trip through the wild, and it is even better when that information is correct. My advice is planning a long trip into the wild away from civilization, always plan for the worse it’ll save lives. Z’ark Hoden - Orc Mountaineer
Quabar the Blue was a great brother. She spent most of her years studying the natural animals of the realm. It was tragic that she died, but that’s the risk you run when you study the wild. Many of the brothers have also dedicated themselves to maintaining the Jade List, to researching and understanding the wild animals of the realm. Without this work the world be even more dangerous and deadly than it already is. Aubre Shale the Red - Botanist Medical Researcher
