The Lady and Consorts - A Bedtime Story
A beautiful Lady was traveling long ago. She had left her home land to seek a safe place to start her own home. This was the common thing to do in this time. So, not to worry. Her parents and family were fine people, it’s just that there is a point in a young lady’s life where a young lady needs a place to call her own.
She travelled for many many years. She saw many strange and wonderful places, and eventually she found the perfect place. It’s on the edges of her family’s land, where a brilliant river of light and rainbow water could be seen. It was a place that provided delicate and refined foods that her palate enjoyed and it was far enough away that she felt peace which she very much needed after all of her travels. So, she stayed and made her home.
First she laid the foundations for her home, and then built everything thing upon those solid and sound. Then she built gardens, for pleasure and the needed materials for textiles, so that she could have art. And, soon word of her peaceful home, gardens and art began to spread. Eventually drawn by promises of the beauty of both her textiles and herself, the Consorts came.
They courted the Lady for a long time. The were words or praise, of course. Gifts of adoration, given. Struggles and trials of valour and glory to prove which of them was the most worthy. Finally, the Lady selected one, The First one. And, she brought him down into her house to test his love.
There was a great turmoil in the her home. Fighting perhaps? Or loving?
The foundations almost broke, but certainly cracked. Rooms were lost or cast off and new rooms made more suitable to their needs. After time where the two remaining consorts could only watch this strange dance, finally the home of the Lady lay peaceful, and she came out, different but the same. And, to them she said, “ The First was not enough. I will need to select another.”
The other Consorts trembled, but could not escape the Lady’s influence. To this day they are torn with a great desire to win the love of the Lady, and a great fear for that would mean.
