Coming Out

I find myself a few days later in a small village on the banks of the River Bleed. It was not difficult to travel to the village of Pullok, but I did make the decision to travel by cart along the River Road. The Bleed itself looked a little too exciting for my tastes as it left the City Bleed, and the boat pilots looked a little overly enthusiastic.
Now, I am not saying that travel by boat down the Bleed is dangerous, I am just noting that the Why of Things did not lead me onto the river, but along the road. The caravan of carts I booked passage with had a particularly nice family of Tabaxi farmers who were returning to the Glaze, the location of their extensive plantation which were highly prosperous these last few years thus enabling them to vacation. They also most generous with thier hospitality.

Now, during my short stay in the village of Pullok, I was able to witiness a most moving local ceremony.
The children of Pullok all attend school as is the expectation, however before that it is tradition in the community that they remain within their homes and the immediate physical environment. I asked how this rustic tradition had come about, and the general thought is that during a period of time in the community's history, they suffered kidnappings by the local preditorial animals. Now, these animals do not exist, thanks to Her Glory and Will, but the tradition of keeping children close to home, remains.
So, when the child is old enough to enjoy the privelages of school, a grand ceremony is performed to welcome the child to the greater community of Pullok.
The patriarchal family head leads a ceremony where the child is given a community name. These names are often traditional as well, perhaps the name of decease ancenstor, or a name that is hopeful prophetic of the child's future and role in the community. Their parents recieve gifts from friends to celebrate their contribution to the community and the child will recieve an endowment of some nature from the community leaders that they will be able to access when they come of age.
When I asked about these endowments, I was told that they tend to be small savings accounts, small plots of land, or a venture stake in a village long term prosperty fund. So, if the community prospers, these child will end up with a nice financial start fund.
While I do not recommend that a person stop at Pullok for thier restaurants or enterainments, I would have to say the people of Pullok are very fine citizens and fully embrace Her Glory and Will towards prosperity.

On a side note, I did a little more looking into the Why of Things, and discovered this interesting creature ... perhaps it was the case that in Pulloks past, a relative of this mostrosity lived in the area?
