Brilhantus
Soul-animal. A dragon that, in exchange for bestowing magic upon a person, receives half their soul and takes their soul animal form. Person and brilhantus are two sides of the same entity.
Ellys, the Goddess of Magic, created many animals, but, for sure, her best creation was the dragons. There are two kinds of dragons, these amazing magical animals. One is the wild kind, those who are born freely with a soul of their own. The other kind, a gift to the persons created by Goddesses Manos and Nanos, are the brilhantus.
Brilhantus do not possess a complete soul, instead, they are vessels that contain magic to share with their chosen person. When a person they recognize as worthy approaches their egg, the brilhantus will hatch and share its magic with that person through the offering of their name. In return, the chosen person will offer half of their soul, becoming one with the dragon. Usually, the impressing/enchanting between brilhantus and person occurs at the age of ten to twelve.
As the brilhantus grow, they start to assimilate their person’s traits, and so they assume the animal form of their person’s soul, be it a dog, a butterfly, a tiger, or an octopus. Most brilhantus never change back into their dragon form unless trained to, like the Moon Knights’ dragons.
Some brilhantus are even more special, as they descend from the Goddess of Magic herself; they are called Ellys Dragons. These brilhantus are made of pure magic, and they’re named after the sacred stone that matches their magic and colors. As such, the person they choose is not only entitled to a special dragon, but a matching sacred stone as well. Only the best people are honored with a child of Ellys.
Because brilhantus and person share their soul, when one of them dies, the other dies as well. One can’t live without the other. The sole exception is the soulless vampires, who are between life and death.
Without a doubt, brilhantus are the best thing in magicians’ lives. They are partners and the same entity at the same time.
