Alati

Lady of Innovation

Alati is one of the Aseitous Ones, the four original self-created deities, and one of the three creators of the physical world alonside Dasa and Palat. She is seen as the goddess of creativity, the process of creation, skill, teaching, writing, and thought. She is the creator of both the Humans and Nagas.   Like her 'siblings' Palat, Dasa, and Nekuin, Alati is recognized and appears in stories across all regions and cultures, though her role in some pantheons is more significant than others. She is known by a number of titles; Lady of Innovation, Master of One Thousand Metals, Queen of Words, Bringer of Talent, the Mind of Flame, and many more. Her consort is Vadu, lord of crafts.

Appearance/Manifestation

As a widespread deity, Alati's depictions can vary immensely by portrayal. Generally, she is visualized as a young humanoid woman with long black hair and red eyes. Her outfit is generally a red version of noble dress appropriate to the artist's cultural background, but often mixed with armored metal plates and straps.   The most consistent feature of Alati depictions is the Fingers of Creation, a tight glove worn over her right hand with metal plates around the fingers, each finger in a different metal- silver for the thumb and then drukite, atlarite, iron, and copper for the rest of the fingers. Alati may be depicted carrying many objects; craftsmen's tools, artist's tools, the stylus, and The Red Artist's Staff, a rod tipped at both ends with metal crescents holding beams of lightning between their ends.

Worship

Being majority-human, Alati is well-respected in Korisgana. While Palat is significantly more present in the standardized 'City Pantheon' of the former Harataran Empire, she is worshipped as patron of scribes, mentors, and administrators, and it is customary for the doors of institutions of learning bear five stripes in the colors of the metals in the Fingers of Creation. The importance of Vadu in the south leads to her craft-related domains being less emphasized in Korisgana than elsewhere, but especially in the north she retains following among craftsmen as the 'Font of Excellence'.   Alati was once the main local deity of Selatra, creator and thus patron of the nagas. She created the deal with Olokushi to allow her continued reincarnation, but while Alati still sends signs guiding Selatrans to The Olokushi, since the rise of Meshaism she is no longer worshiped. Even within Meshaism, she is given an exalted status above other gods as the 'Mother of Knowledge', but this is a comparatively minor role when Meshaism is generally not focused on the gods, and the few sects that do give deities some doctrinal importance usually prefer other ones. A few small Alati relic cults remain, and some of the pre-Mesha sites are still active as pilgrimage sites from Alati worshipers from outside Selatra.

Divine Domains

Alati's primary divine domain, and the one most of her many subdomains tie to, is creation. Anywhere that things are made is her domain- crafting, art, cooking, construction, even birth. Alati is prayed to for the success of new endeavors and ideas, and is the patron of creativity and the drive to make things.   She also is associated with the skills involved in the process of creation, giving guidence to those who make things, as well as blessing the process of transfering skills through teaching. Alati is said to have invented writing to allow her children to share their thoughts more easily, and as such she is also the goddess of language and the written word.
