Nekuin
The Void Dragon; Lord of Slime
Nekuin is the eldest of the Aseitous Ones, the four gods predating the beginning of the physical world's creation, making him the oldest individual in the cosmos. He is god of the Void, the night sky, beginnings, narcissism, and ignorance.
In the days before creation, all was an undifferentiated tangled mass of concepts within Azar. Nekuin was the first piece of Azar to gain self-identity and independence, followed not long after by Alati, Palat, and Dasa. Unlike the others, Nekuin did not take part in the creation of the world- indeed, he actively tried to hinder it. Insisting that he had invented the concept of being an individual, and furthermore the concept of being a god, he is enraged at the idea that it can be done without his approval, and seeks to at least hinder attempts at enlightenment, with his ultimate aim being to prevent anything from existing without his direct permission.
Appearance/Manifestation
As with any deity, Nekuin's appearance differs somewhat from one depiction to another. Most depictions show Nekuin as a winged reptilian creature either in pitch black or covered in starry patterns. Though generally not the central figure of any depiction, he is often shown curved into a half-circle shape, menacing a central figure. Depictions of Nekuin as humanoid have been recorded as existing among a few cults, but none have survived. In many artistic depictions, as well as the few accounts of Nekuin manifesting a physical body, he does not seem completely solid, constantly emitting a dark slime that slowly drops from his body, transforming into various forms of lesser monstrous beings. Like all of the Aseitous Ones, Nekuin lacks sex and gender entirely, and different manifestations of Nekuin may adopt whatever gender identity they like for the purpose of communication with mortals. However, Nekuin most often is seen as masculine and manifests with a voice and titles to match, so is treated as such by most cultures, though the Vira Alani of Anibat see the entity they refer to as Neth-Huan as being feminine.Worship
Every known culture acknowledges Nekuin's existence in some form, but he is rarely actively worshiped, most commonly featuring as an adversarial figure in the stories of major heroes and deities. That said, he forms an important part of most cultural cosmologies, and often has some degree of respect even among the cultures with more negative views of him. Dedicated worship of Nekuin is not a majority faith in any region, but is most common in the north, along the Worldseam into the Void. Reverence for Nekuin is part of the practices of the Tohupasati tribe in Satarhat, and has bled into some of their neighboring groups. They treat Nekuin as 'the spark of creation', not nessecarily an active agent himself but as a nessecary element for the world to exist. The Daliari of Selenistan know the entity they call Neakun as the guardian of nights, dangerous but potentially able to protect against malignant spirits if appeased. The most widespread worship of Nekuin though is among dozens of minor cults with quite varied reasons for putting their faith in a being most see as at best a danger to be appeased. These cults range from simple religious groups to conspiracies to undermine other faiths or even the stability of the world itself, so outside of a few very heavily monitered and small orders, Nekuin Worship is usually underground, the only sizable temple to Nekuin consistantly open being in Amakisha, the great temple-city of Anibat which prides itself on having places of worship for every possible deity.Divine Domains
Nekuin's primary association is the void, those parts of Azar still made from raw indistinct concepts pulling apart and crashing together. As the void is by its nature undefined, there are many aspects of it beyond him, but the 'Near Void'- the area past the Worldseam and the night sky, are under his domain.
As the first being to develop individuality, Nekuin is the guardian of beginnings, who encompasses the starting of endeavors, plots, and rebellions. He exists where a thing begins, and as such his devotees associate him with birth, construction, and other 'starts'. Another darker domain of Nekuin is that of narcissim and arrogance, as well as ignorance and the obstacles in the way of learning and growing.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
Nekuin, as the first being to differentiate, sees individuality as his own invention, and is immensely proud of it. His primary motivation is bitterness at the worship Alati, Palat, and Dasa receive for creating the world, believing that to be a less important acomplishment than his own.
As such, his goals all revolve around the subversion of their acomplishments, in the small scale by distrupting their worship and generally hindering their creations- the mortals, trying to prevent them from reaching enlightenment and becoming deities themselves. On a larger scale, Nekuin's ultimate goal is the destruction of the world, leaving only his singular acomplishment without competition.
