Zyren

Zyren (a.k.a. Z)

This scrappy young woman stands a slight five and a half feet. If her stormy grey eyes and scuffed up, studded leathers didn't catch your attention, perhaps the well-oiled weapon sheaths will? Or, maybe tiny obsidian horns just barely emerging from the mop of unevenly-hacked silver-white hair? If that weren't memorable enough, perhaps her cobalt blue skin and thin whip of a tail might attract your notice.   She wears a near-permanent smirk.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Slightly shorter than average and thin. Her muscles are more like tight cables than hulking boulders.

Body Features

Tiny obsidian horns, messy silver-white hair, a whip-like tail, and a few scars here and there, mark Z as a Tiefling and as a brawler.

Facial Features

The few little scars on her chin aren't hidden, if anything, they're worn as a badge of pride along with the ear and eyebrow piercings. Despite not accenting her features with cosmetics, her facial structure is fairly feminine.

Identifying Characteristics

...she's blue.
In all seriousness, she has two small scars on her chin and the base of her horns have deep cut marks, as if someone/thing had removed them and they are slowly beginning to regrow.

Physical quirks

When she lies, the tip of her tail flicks, though it wouldn't necessarily be easy to tell as she's always flipping her tail around.

Apparel & Accessories

Her typical kit consists of scratched up, well-used studded armor and two sharp swords. A worn hip pouch, backpack, and bedroll are often added to this while she travels.

Specialized Equipment

Z is a fighter to the core. She is as dextrous with her left hand as with her right. Catching her flat footed would be extremely difficult.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Player's Note:There are spoilers in the "Personal History" section that you might want to avoid if you're interested in learning about the character organically, through the story. I would not post it here if I wasn't ok with you reading it! ~ <3 Z's Player ~

Z grew up in the 'arms' of the Brownden Guild in Therron. Brought in at a ludicrously young age by a sponsor who saw some spark, the tiefling girl doesn't really recall life before the Guild. Loyal, dextrous, and tough, the girl grew fast. Her many 'adventures' with 'friends' served the guild well, bringing in wealth. She'd gained some renown as a Bruiser and, by the time she was considered an adult, Z found herself deeply ensconced in the lower leadership ranks of the Brownden.      Determined to bring young urchins in from the streets, Z began sponsoring kids (just as she was sponsored). Her choices often got her in trouble, as they weren't the keen-eyed, wise choices of her own sponsor...but the whimsical choices of someone seeking to do something 'good.' While her charges often failed and the punishment doled out to Z was brutal, the young fighter never struck one of her own.      Loyalty to the Guild and to her urchins kept her in place and kept her training her younglings. In a desperate attempt to regain some favor, Z took one of her particularly nimble 'smalls' with her to retrieve some documents from an official's office. The mission ended badly. Z escaped with her life, by a thread ...and with the limp body of her charge, Myren.      Fearful of the consequences, but unwilling for the others connected to her to take the fall, Z returned. As a very public display of her failure, and as a warning to others, she was left out for all to watch the beating and shame...it would be nice to say she didn't cry out, to think she had the dignity not to beg...but...well...even she doesn't remember. Eventually, oblivion claimed her. ...at least, she thought it had...      She woke on a pallet in a rundown shanty, somewhere ...else. Her bruises remained, broken ribs, fingers...even her horns were gone, sawed to the scalp...one of them pinned a rough note to the wall, "They think you're dead. Go. Do better."

Gender Identity

Female.

Sexuality

She hasn't really had time to explore her sexuality...life and death are kind of more important.

Education

As she grew up in a criminal organization, Z's education included various things that were vital to her survival, but she's never received any formal education. She can read and write the common script.

Employment

"Employment" with the Brownden Guild was more a lifestyle than a job.

Failures & Embarrassments

She was directly responsible for the death of one of her underlings, Myren. She was nearly responsible for the death of Weezil and the downfall of Grim Grod's plans to foil Netiery's attack on Gringold.

Mental Trauma

Growing up inside an organization that rewarded you for 'success' (which typically included beating those that owed the guild, stealing, and who knows what deeper criminal activities) and severely punished your superiors for your failure, tends to have an effect on people...

Intellectual Characteristics

Z is of average intelligence, but isn't very wise.

Morality & Philosophy

There's so much confusion in the poor tiefling girl's head. The strong should protect the weak...right? Yes! ..ok, maybe coin is important, too? Food's good. Everybody needs to eat!

Taboos

Don't cross the Boss. Feed the "littles" first.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Z's motivation is to protect those who can't protect themselves. While that sounds noble and wonderful, she's not really certain what all that entails or how to properly go about it.   ...she does have a bit of a temper problem... pointing a weapon at her is probably not the best idea.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Z is quick and can read body language easily.   ...but as far as understanding people, in general? ...yeah, she lives in her own little world.

Likes & Dislikes

Z loves good food and enjoys a good 'scrap.' (Not a full on battle where people die, but a good solid fight where everyone involved has their skills tested)   She hates bullies (despite sort of being one, herself). Do NOT pick on the little ones!

Hygiene

Z is clean and keeps her weapons and armor well oiled. She can make due if there's no place to wash and won't complain about sleeping in the dirt or grass, but who likes to be dirty and itchy? ...and it's so much easier to smell someone sneaky than it is to see them.

Social

Family Ties

Z has no blood family that she's aware of.

Religious Views

Z respects strength and leans toward the views of Kord, but to call her 'religious' would be a stretch.

This scrappy young tiefling has seen her fair share of the underbelly of the world. Heavy memories hide behind the smirk and carefree mask. Fiercely loyal and protective, threaten her 'pack' at your own peril.

The Darkness & The Dwarves

I remember when the darkness used to be a friend; it shadowed me in safety and kept the eyes of guards and nobles away. Now? Now, the darkness hides the things our little family is searching for. I've managed to lead them safely through the mines, so far, but what happens when I make a misstep? I can't think that way, now, especially after the crazed miners tried to stop us.   Now, I have to trust the others. We have a cursed treasure to bury if we hope to keep it out of others' hands, though, I kind of agree that we should just let the Elves have it; let them be cursed. Our luck, they'd know how to un-curse it. The others have figured out what to do. Grim and Echo have the answers. In fact, Echo is calling us to leave the room so she can collapse the entrance. All she has is a paper, so, who knows what she's actually doing. I trust her, though.

Echoes of Family
Just before entering Gringold Mine

Echo doesn't bleed... she ... doesn't bleed... it's scary, but I decided that it doesn't matter. She and Grim are still the Boss!   What are we doing? Are we really going to lead a whole town into the hands of a Guild? Even if they aren't as bad as... **the beginnings of a word are scribbled out and scribbled over, even to the point of putting a small hole in the paper**   ... even if they're not as bad as where I came from, wouldn't the townsfolk rather be free? Then again, the Elves are coming for them. It's a terrible choice. Safety or Freedom. Freedom or Safety.   They've gotta choose. for themselves, but I still... the little ones ... I won't let the Dwarf and her talking rapier press them into service if it's anything like the guild I knew. I'll die stopping her, if I have to. I hope I won't have to. Despite everything, I believe this Frina. ...I don't know why I believe her. Maybe I shouldn't, but, she seemed more honest than the Bosses I knew. Maybe she will take care of these people and forge herself a clan, as she said. Maybe these Rokbyters are really like Cassandro said...   For now, the others want to explore the mine and its cursed gold. Gold that drove the mayor mad -- just by spending it, if the Dwarf is to be believed. One more thing to worry about.   Grim, Echo, Firbolg, Weezil, Silver, and Whistle are the worries that I should be focusing on. I have to keep them safe so we can all keep the rest of the town safe. Are we making a new Family? Our own Guild? A Guildless Guild? A Family without Blood?   ~Z~ Dead

That Went Well...?
After Netiery Joins Gringold

There's so much going on that Echo and Grim haven't had a chance to punish me, after I screwed up scouting on Netiery's camp. Should I run? What about the others? I can't leave Whistle; not to mention Silver, Weezil, and Firbolg. I survived it. Grim's not so bad and Echo's nice...maybe it won't be death. I can take it, whatever it is.
