The Year of The Wild

This world consists of two known populated continents. One has been settled for thousands of years. This land is tame, the people are docile, and there are ONLY 3 races that call this continent home. Elves, Gnomes, and Humans. About 1,500 years previous to our setting, the continent was filled with more (Dwarves, Minotaurs, Dragonborn, Tieflings, and Orcs). The elves came together and created a coalition of Elves, Gnomes, and Humans to overthrow the other races holdings, and exterminate them. In the hundred year feud, the dwarves managed to create a vast underground network leading under the ocean that was, at the time, impassable overhead given current technologies. The elven coalition, known to themselves as the “Sentalis Pact”, taught their followers over the years that the “monsters” they were at war with were evil creatures that are now extinct.   Queue to “current day” in our setting, and sailing technologies have finally reached a point where vast long voyages over the ocean are possible. Azarea, the continent where our story begins, is discovered. Much to the shock of the world, it is a massive landmass teeming with everything they were ever taught was a nightmare. Dragons, Kobolds, Goblinkin, Giants, and every other creature imaginable inhabit this continent. It is a true wild frontier. As humans and gnomes start to get footholds along the coast to begin taming this land (the elves, having become comfortable, long lived politicians, are essentially a race of aristocrats and “high born nobles”. Any opposition they find, they simply stalemate, and outlive). As they start venturing out, they begin to also find “fairy tales”... Dwarves, Minotaur, Orcs, and Tieflings. Most of the Dwarves live in mountains, as one would expect… dug in deep and want nothing to do with the other races. Minotaur and Orcs have banded together to make roaming and nomadic tribes. They are (mostly) honorable, yet determined to never let the world bend them again. Tieflings and Dragonborn are dotted throughout the landscape, and are the closest thing to “normal people” you can find. They have set up small cities, forts, and trade routes with each other (and when they can get them to listen, the dwarves). They are buried deep in the continent, with much wilderness between them and the human settlements.   This entire continent is in a state of upheaval. The “Wilderness” is being driven back by the humans and gnomes, who landed 50 years ago. They are beginning to establish permanent settlements, and push back the wild side of Azeara. The Tieflings and Dragonborn settlements are being assaulted by these now homeless tribes. Tensions are high between both sides, as they blame each other for all of the things going wrong in their little corner of Azarea. The elves, having sent over only a dozen or so dignitaries, are attempting to establish a government, which is being resisted by both humans and gnomes, who don’t see why they should share this hard won land with a government that they left behind, and that left them.   “Lords” are claiming land and establishing keeps in the Human lands of Rantoo. There are different ideas of who should rule and why. “Sentalis Pact '' settlements are trying to force humans and gnomes in other settlements under their rule… by force, or by economic pressure from their seat at New Sladar in the New Kreman kingdom. Tieflings and Dragonborn are fighting to ensure their lands are safe, and that it is understood they are their own rule from their seat in Quartoran in the Kingdom of Abeleria . People are seeking safety from each other, from monsters, from wars, from politics… and everything is in upheaval. This is your world. This is what your character was born into
