Grim Batol
Purpose / Function
After the civil war between the Bronzebeards, the Dark Irons, and the Wildhammers, Thane Khardros lead his Wildhammer Clan north and founded their own kingdom within the mountain of Grim Batol.
History
War of the Three Hammers
After the civil war among the dwarven clans the Thane of the Dark Irons, Thaurissan, launched a two-sided attack against Ironforge and Grim Batol. His wife Modgud lead the attack against the Wildhammers.
Modgud was slain by Khardros but the damage to Grim Batol was too severe. There was a taint that was left after the death of Modgud. She had used dark powers to combat the Wildhammers and must have placed a curse upon Grim Batol with her last breath.
Second War
Now vacant, Grim Batol became a primary base for the Horde. Oil refinery and dragon breeding was the main use of this old fortress. The Horde used the Demon Soul to control the red brood including Alexstrasza the Aspect of the Red Dragonflight. A small band of heroes infiltrated Grim Batol and destroyed the Demon Soul commanding the red dragons. The dragons killed their captors and then once again Grim Batol became vacant.
