Flooding of the Crystal Expanse

The Crystal Expanse is an ocean made of The World Dragon's tears and blood, though few know this fact. Every 100 or so years, when the dragon has finished one REM cycle of its slumber, it sheds more tears and bleeds more blood from The Sacred Wound. As a result, the Crystal Expanse floods into the coastal wetlands and port cities. Due to the magical nature of both the tears and the blood, many magical events can occur. It is difficult to tell what kind of effect will occur when any particular area is soaked in the water. Rarely do effects repeat themselves over the years.
In the year 1615, when the floods raged across the coast, a new type of tree sprouted. This tree is called the Crystalline Oak. The wood from this oak is especially resistant to the elements, especially fire. However, it is brittle and can be shattered easily. Certain buildings use this resource as a decorative element, and is added protection against the elements.
In the year 1509, it is recorded that the fauna (including humanoids) of the coastlines that drowned in the floods gained a new ability due to the magical circumstances surrounding their "death". These lifeforms are denied reincarnation and are destined to traverse the world in a state between life and death. This brings great distress to both Kymnir and Iva. They have not yet found a way to reverse this.
In the year 1408, the water gave life to some five thousand particles of sand. They became dragon-like creatures according to the scientists at the time. However, the microscope was a fairly new invention, and more recently when scientists have been able to catch one (which is extremely rare), they have classified these creatures as more snake-like rather than their more magical cousins.
Before the year 1352, the language of the world was very different to what it is today. Modern linguists are still trying to translate, and any theories about past floods should be taken with a grain of salt at this time.
While we do not know how future floods will affect the landscape and its inhabitants, we can prepare. We station watchers around the Sacred Wound 90 years after the previous event, and they warn the port cities of any swell in the ocean. We stay safe that way.

Manifestation

The floods look like typical water for Azurai, that being a reddish hue. However, due to it being fresh blood, there is a distinctly magical quality to it. There is a dull purple glow applied to the surface of the water, and it is slightly thicker than normal water. This lasts about three to five years at the most. The potency of the water is not dulled, but the water drains and soaks into the earth so there is less of it.

Localization

Since the ocean floods, it mostly affects the coastlines and port cities of Vela, and some of the coastline of Sestera, though only a marginal amount.
