The Edge of Beyond
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
The Edge of Beyond is the realm of non reality that lies beyond the Outside, and includes the infinity beyond the planes of the universe. It goes on for eternity, and is a realm of pure impossibility and lack thereof. No laws physical or metaphysical apply in this place, and weak minds can easily go mad.
It once acted as the prison of the Nemesis, and now acts as his grave.
Geography
The edge of Beyond is an alternate dimension that hungers for a representational, godlike entity, the Fallen Nemesis being its current divine inhabitant. many philosiphers believe that once all of reality was a part of the Edge of Beyond, until the original gods, the Creators, formed the Outside, the Ethereal, and Prime Planes.
There are few means of reaching the Edge of Beyond, and most are near impossible to achieve. While some are brought into the Edge of Beyond in their dreams, the dimension can be accessed directly from the natural world through holes bored into reality by the Nemesis. Even still, the journey through one of these bores is almost always a death sentence, and even still, the few survivors are nearly always driven insane. The few known bores are fiercely guarded by Mandate armies and consicrated fortresses.
Localized Phenomena
The Edge of Beyond is saturated with void energy that drains life from mortals within moments; most who arrive without magical protection or planar attunement immediately turn to ash and become twisted beings called "The Newborn.". Food and natural materials, such as mundane cloth and leather, rot immediately, and metal rusts away within days. It is inherently neutral in light—natural light sources go out on their own—and frigid yet scolding at the same time. Gravity is subjective and directional, but movement is a matter of will more than physical force.
Divine power and magical light tend to attract the attention of the plane's resident Newborns.
History
The Nemesis has always lived in the Edge of Beyond, unbeknownst to mortals. the Creators imprisoned him there at the beginning of time, to prevent him from ending reality.
However, slowly through cracks between the Edge of Beyond and the Outside, the Nemesis was able to bore his will into creation, destroying worlds through his new insane subjects. This forced the creation of the Sundered and the Nongod, whose sole purpose was to prevent mortals from falling under the influence of the universe ender. Unfortunetly, this eventually led the to Sundereds current nature; whenever a world had fallen under the influence of the nemesis's whispers, they would destroy the world. This cycle went on for many millions of years, if not billions.
The Second Fall officially begane when the Nemesis managed to trick the Knights of Harmony, which allowed an opening for him to "kick open the metaphysical door". He arrived into the Universe physically, and fought the Knights of Harmony for the fate of reality. Through hardship and much sacrifice, he was slain, and his endless corpse now resides within his former prison. Unfortunetly for the Universe, this did not stop the Sundered from trying to destroy the world, beginning the Second Battle of Refuge.
Though the Nemesis is slain, this does not stop him from influencing reality in small ways, for even a dead god can dream.
