The Ethereal Plane

The Ethereal Plane is the doorway between the Prime Plane and the Outside. Its purpose is for the passage of souls to find their way to the Judging Eye, for final judgement and potential reincarnation.

Geography

The Ethereal plane is represented as a paper thin reality sandwiched betweent he Prime Plane and the Outside. it is just out of phase with the Prime Plane, allowing its residents to be invisible to most mortals, excluding the Alberians and some other races.
When a traveler crossed into the Ethereal, he and all his possessions are converted to their Ethereal equivalents, metal became ethereal metal, flesh became ethereal flesh and so on, allowing free movement (in most cases) in any direction through the solid matter of the adjacent plane. Since everything is permeated with ethereality, an air-breathing creature can breathe ethereal air and can not drown in an ethereal lake nor be crushed by an ethereal rock. However, not all in the adjacent plane are insubstantial. Living things larger than one-celled animals generate an aura that radiate around them and prevent passage to their interior, so an ethereal traveler can not place a weapon inside a living creature where it will materialize and cause damage.
