The Outside
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
The Outside is that which lies beyond the Prime Plane. It is a term used to describe a subset of the known planes of existence in various cosmology models. The term refers to the placement of the planes being the outermost concentric sphere that made up the Universe. it is home to the Gods, to the Sundered, some demons, and more recently the Devils of the Consult.
The Outside is the relation between subject and object, desire and reality, that underwrites the structure of existence. The Prime Plane is simply the point of maximal objectivity, the plane where the desires of individual souls are helpless before circumstance. The many regions of the Outside then represent diminishing levels of objectivity, where circumstances yield more and more to desire. This is what defines the "spheres of dominance" of Gods, Sundered, Devils, and demons; the greater will commmands. The more powerful enitities of the outside dwell in "sub-realities" that conform to their desires. This is what makes piety and devotion so important: the more favour an individual can secure in the Outside (primarily through the worship of gods and the honouring of ancestors), the greater the chance of finding bliss in the Judging Eye during Reincarnation.
Geography
There are a thousand ways to perceive the Outside, every voyager sees it differently, depending on circumstance, form, and state of mind. The Master Arcanist Pelegos of Myyr, projecting his spirit into the Outside, saw it as a black, airless void in which a billion Sundered eyes twinkled, and behind and beneath him blazed the world from which he had come, ruined and forsaken. The knights of Harmony perceived it as a chaotic realm where the universes sparked by the Light and Shadow bled together; a place of pitch black skies, twisting and filled with strange, conflicting powers. Countless worlds appear on the edge, seemingly close enough to touch and yet unimaginably far away. The Light intermingles with the Shadow, the primal uncontrolled forces of chaos and order, life and death, clash.
The Outside, though separate from the physical universe, still has physical objects. It transcends all realities and is normally imperceptible to mortals. Time passes differently deep inside the Outside, and it is impossible to tell whether days, years, or centuries have passed.
