Halflings
"I see you've finally decided to show up. How shall I call you today?"
"Relax, Hewnir."
"So, it is Mardook, I see. Can you really not decide on a form?"
"Who says it has to be one?"
Hewnir waves off the arguement.
"I think I'd like to try my hand at my own creation."
"And will this creation be as multifarious as you?"
"Ah, I'll leave that up to them like the others. Nemis really did a number with his didn't he?"
"Nemis had...interesting ideas, but I will not criticize the first of us."
"And yours! They're so...big!"
"The originals? Yes, they were quite large."
"I'm surprised they didn't squash the others. Were they scared?"
"No. It was not in their nature."
"Why are those guys so much smaller than the others?"
"They gambled. But enough about mine, what will you do?"
"Well, to begin, since yours are so big, I'll go the other way. Nemis's are too... stretched. I think I can do better."
"Pay attention! You're missing it."
"Missing wha-"
"Oh, look. They're there! It's that easy?"
Hewnir nods.
"Well, I want them to be small, but also steadfast, unfazed by the largest of dangers, willing to run into the Void if called to it."
"You have quite a handle on this, but don't get carried away."
#%##%#%##$#
"They should be warm and welcoming, too. They should get along with everyone! Even yours, Hewnir!"
"There you are, Llwell. Of course ours will get along."
#$%#$$%#$%#
"Can I control them?"
"That didn't last long, Noita."
"Answer me, cousin."
"It is not wise, nor is it allowed. They are not playthings."
"Aren't they? They're already at a disadvantage. I'd hate for them to perish for my decisions."
"It is not allowed, but that only matters if you are caught."
Noita smiles.
"I will have to be careful. Subtle. So it is not noticed. You are no fair influence, Hewnir."
"Where do you think mine got it from? Let us hope you fair better. Now, may you bring Llwell back? She is sweet."
"Ah, you see there! That one is in danger. What if one of Mother's rocks fell on that snake's head?"
"That may have been too much."
Noita grins.
"We will soon see, mm? If it's Fate that binds us all, then mine will make their own."
Fin.

Halflings tend to settle in idyllic environments like temperate hills with stable predictable weather.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
The biggest misnomer among the halflings is just so: halfling. They call themselves, the fairfolk. Fair, for they mostly keep to themselves and out of the business of the larger politcal entities in which they live.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Halflings, interestingly, get along well with hill giants which offer a form of protection around their settlements. This is an unusual phenomenon since hill giants tend to view smaller things as prey. as an extension of this, halflings and giants tend to have an affinity for one another.
