Obobri

A traditional Alyse robe, this garment is only usually worn by priests or for special events.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

How an obobri is worn:
  1. Obobri are traditionally worn with some kind of slip or underdress underneath.
  2. Pull the left tab over the left shoulder and pull the length of the fabric to the right.
  3. Pull the length under the right arm and around the front of the body to the left, attaching the left tab to the left button.
  4. Pull the remaining length around the back, pulling the right tab over the right shoulder. Fasten the right tab to the right button.
  5. If there are buttons under the right arm, those are to be fastened. A belt or corset may also be placed over the garment.

Manufacturing process

  • Most Oboby are mass-produced, made from inexpensive materials like cotton or rayon, usually one colour and plain.
  • Expensive Obobry for royalty or priests are often hand-sewn, made from more expensive materials like silk or cashmere, and often embroidered with beautiful images of nature.

Significance

  • More traditional obobri have nine buttons on them (Two on the shoulders and seven under the arm.) These are to represent the nine circles of Hell.
  • Most obobri are worn right over left, left over right is reserved for those of authority and status like royalty.

  • An Obobri is often made from cotton, rayon, fleece, wool or silk.
  • It is traditionally worn with two ornate metal broaches at the shoulders and seven buttons down the side, either made from metal, wood, bone or plastic. Sometimes the broaches are replaced with buttons. Some modern obobri also forgo the side buttons.
