Kneeling for the Creator

The Yashelin kneel when they are in the Ida's presence. They do this as a cultural and religious gesture of deference for their Creator and/or their God. Although the Ida only asks the Yashelin to kneel during special ceremonies and rituals, they typically kneel anytime the Ida is nearby.

How to Kneel

How a Yashelin kneels depends upon their age and perceived position within the Aravun Yashelin hierarchy. I do not currently have an article available which goes into depth about the Yashelin hierarchy, but the The Cardinal Pantheon is a good start even though it transcends their culture.

Nisoyal

Ezeki and Nanatu are the only two corporeal Nisoyal. The Ida takes offense when they kneel unnecessarily. Therefore, they remain standing unless commanded otherwise.
The Ida appears before the Ezekoru.   The room rushes to kneel.   Nanatu looks around her and moves to follow suit in a panic.   Ezeki grabs her by the shoulder and wrenches her back up."But--?"   Ezeki shakes its head and signs, 'We are not them.'

Serayin

The Serayin kneel according to personal preference:
  1. Heyir, Uri, and Rafa tend to kneel but gaze up at the Ida at the same time,
  2. Coran, Gafir, and Seri prefer to kneel with their eyes downcast instead, and
  3. Areta Maikir refuses to kneel under any circumstances, which the Ida and most peers begrudgingly permit, but Areta used to kneel with ver head bowed.

Adult Yashelin

The majority of the Idin, or created, Yashelin kneel with their head bowed. Tikiran, or transformed, Yashelin, meanwhile, usually kneel with their back bowed as well.

Yashelin Children

Yashelin children are permitted to gaze up at the Ida while they kneel at the Naming Ceremony. Afterwards, the rules of adults apply to youths as well.

Kivrians

Kivrians are exempt from kneeling by default. If they are familiar enough with Aravun Yashelin cultural practices to know that kneeling is mandatory, neglecting to do will raise eyebrows but it will not be treated like an insult. Astris are always exempt.

Refusal to Kneel

If someone forgets to kneel, they are immediately rebuffed by their peers. A refusal to kneel, however, may result in a physical or verbal altercation after the Ida has left. This is because it is regarded as a severe form of blasphemy for those who worship the Ida. Amongst those who do not worship it, it is extremely rude not to pay your respects to the person who literally created (or transformed) you into a Yashelin.
