The Field Crew

Ask any field worker and they'll waste no time in letting you know "They only call us fieldmen because they want to drop us to the level of Paladin." And the truth of the matter will change depending on whether you ask a Paladin or a Guard. 
In any case, Field Workers are not Paladins. They have no policing powers and remain legally citizens. However, whilst some protect the walls of Axis one their own accord, some out of good will others protecting their homes, Field Workers are paid to do so. They are guards on permanent retainer, working for Axis every blood moon until they quit or are fired. It's good steady work given to talented and proficient Guards.
