Battle for Aetherite
The battle for Aetherite there is a long-running conflict between the "Night Watch" and the "Order of Shadows". The Night Watch is a powerful secret society that has ruled over the knowledge and control of the Aetherite Crystals for generations. Their technology and magical abilities have made them a dominant force in Baeleris.
The Order of Shadows, on the other hand, is a group of oppressed people who were once part of the Night Watch, but have rebelled against their tyranny. They were driven out and forced underground, but have managed to build some structure. Although outnumbered and out-equipped, they have a strong belief in their cause and hope to free the people and the crystals from the tyranny of the Night Watch.
The Conflict
The beginning conflict was marked by subtle rivalries that began in secret. Both factions, deeply convinced of their ideologies and goals, clashed again and again in the Shadow Realm of Baeleris. Both factions spread dark rumors of theft and betrayal within the cities, which brought the conflict more and more to a point. In order to counter control over the Aetherite, the Order of Shadows obtained Eldritch Aetherite Crystals to bolster their own claims to power. As a result, the simmering conflict flared up and became openly violent.
Since the conflict escalated, the two sides have repeatedly clashed in small skirmishes. The Night Watch keeps trying to locate the Order of Shadows' hiding places, but these efforts have been in vain so far. Instead, at least for now, it is the Order of Shadows that chooses the particular battlefield and prepares ambushes with the Eldritch Aetherite Crystals.
So while the Order of Shadows chooses the battlefield and finally has weapons that are similarly powerful to those of the Night Watch, the Night's Watch outnumbers them. Every casualty of the Order of Shadows is serious damage to the outnumbered, while the Night Watch can replace any loss immediately.
