The Shadowstorm
In the distance, dark, looming shadows seem to extinguish the light of the day that was so bright just a moment ago. Dark, swirling clouds gather in the sky with breathtaking speed, and twitching lightning is the only source of light left in the storm front. The unnatural thunder can be heard far across the otherwise deadly silent land.
As the storm approaches, you can make out figures in it. Twitching, writhing, and intertwining, like distorted lovers under a blanket of shadow. Their eyes glow like hot embers, and they wind among the dense trees, gliding around the rocks and seeming to keep an eye on all those trying to escape the destructive storm...
The Shadowstorm first appeared over the Ebonpeak Mountains in Mortavia nearly 15 years ago. From there, it cut a devastating swath through the Ember Forests, almost to the Misty Coast. Trees in its path were uprooted, homes were reduced to rubble, and those who escaped the storm suffered terrible mental scars. Since then, the storm has recurred, although the intervals seem irregular, and no one knows precisely what the supernatural phenomenon depends on.
Origin of the storm and its movement
No one knows what causes the storm or how to stop it. The intervals between two storms seem completely random and do not follow any natural pattern. However, it is obvious that the storm is moving from Obsidian Mountain toward the coast of Mortavia, destroying only a swath about 3 kilometers wide. So far, the storm has never been able to reach the coast, which is why the inhabitants of Mortavia consider the regions there safe. But everyone thought that the whole continent was safe...
However, magicians and sorcerers are sure that the storm did not arise naturally. They assume that a magician or necromancer controls and directs the phenomenon. According to scholars, the arbitrary intervals could follow a personal ritual plan. As proof of this theory, they take the eyes that some observers have seen in the storm, as well as the fact that while everyone in the direct path of the storm is at risk, just ten steps outside means complete safety.
