Earth Lilith
Liliths are small, mischievous creatures. The word 'lilith' literally means demon. There are four types of liliths; air, fire, earth, and water.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Like all liliths, the earth lilith has a small human-like frame. Their head and back is covered in strong bands of horn and bone. This feature helps them to stay protected from larger predators. They can even curl into a ball so that their armoured shell covers their undersides and protects them.
Their fingers are curved into sharp claws that help them dig in loose soil quickly and efficiently. They can also bury themselves instantly to conserve moisture and protect from extreme temperatures and predators.
Ecology and Habitats
Earth liliths make underground burrows and tunnels in their feeding grounds. Unlike many other fossorial animals, they are not territorial and will abandon their burrows for better feeding grounds. This creates new habitats for other animals.
They spend most of their day in their burrows, sleeping. In summer, they stay underground during daytime but come out at nighttime. In winter, they come out of their burrows at the warmest point of the day.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Earth liliths consume ants, termites, and beetles (among other insects). Additionally, they can be found to eat snails, worms, small reptiles, eggs and plants.
Behaviour
The earth liliths are the least aggressive of all the liliths, prioritising defence over attack. They have been known to uproot plants and even burrow near trees causing damage to the tree roots. This can cause irrepairable damage to the habitat and ecosystem.
They have been found to enjoy mutilating small reptiles and mammals. Mammals are usually left behind but, in winter, reptiles are taken into tunnels. It is unclear if they continue to harm them or eat them when they are taken underground.
