Lyara

Lyara is a magical harp. It has the capabilities to play music that enchants and it weaves magic between notes. The enchantments are controlled by its owner's wishes. Its purpose was to be used during political gatherings and to sway the crowd’s opinion in favour of the owner.   It was named after the siren child.

Manufacturing process

Darlith, a giantess blacksmith, created a normal harp out of a wooden frame and strengthened silk strings. Then, she kidnapped a siren child and fused her body with the frame. The harp gets its powers from the siren skin, hair, blood and bone infused in it.

History

After it was forged by a giantess blacksmith, Darlith, it was gifted to a giant merchant, Racen. Racen used the harp to gain political power and influence over many giant counties in the Western kingdoms. He also influenced the royal family by playing adviser. After many years of control, Racen fell ill and passed away.   The harp moved into the possession of Racen’s son, Toroch. Toroch used to throw debaucherous revelries in which he used the Lyara for music. He didn't respect its capabilities and abused its powers. He hired young giantess maidens to play the harp and after the party was over, he would discard them with little pay for the long hours they worked nonstop. The Lyara had no choice but to comply with its owner because of its oaths. After Toroch was slain, the Lyara was freed of its bindings and was rescued by a traveller, Lorké.   Lorké exercised less control over the harp but also used it to get resources such as food, water, shelter, comforts and more. Taking the harp with him, he travelled east to visit his cousin. On the journey, he faced many difficulties in the form of thieves who knew of the harp’s power. He managed to keep the harp in his possession until, on the way, he visited his sister, Eske. He left the harp with her.   Eske, afraid of the dangers of its powers, stored it in a box and hid the box. She enchanted the area with safety precautions and tests so that it wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. Decades later, a trio of elves were sent on a quest to retrieve it. They managed to get it and sold it to a private collector of ancient artefacts.   After many years, the collector’s children sold the harp to a museum where it remains to this day.
